notes

This is an excerpt from an article in the July 18, 2001 Macon Telegraph written by Ed Grisamore : When Skeebo Knight was a kid, every entrance to Wimbish Woods was the gate to the Magic Kingdom. "It was a magical place to grow up," he said. " We were lucky to be there, and all the other families who lived there felt the same way. Our neighbors were more like kinfolk."

When he picked up drumsticks and started laying down the grooves for his new jazz CD, he remembered the rhythms of his heart. He remembered his lifelong friends." I wanted this to be a tribute to a great neighborhood, " he said.

He is understandably proud of  " Tales from Wimbish Woods. " His old neighborhood should be proud of him. It is a musical highway through those teen-age wonder years, when Skeebo could be found tapping on any surface within striking distance of his drumsticks.

A number of his talented buddies contributed to the Wimbish Woods tracks, Tim Brooks, Miguel Castro, Marshall Coats, Elbert Durham, Neal Fountain, Marcus Henderson, John Landrum, Chuck Leavell, Count M' Butu, Adam Mewherter, Neil Rigole, and Jimmy Waters.

  • Groove city!
    author: Reggie Solomon

If you like to groove, this is the CD for you! Skeebo and the crew mix it up with blues, jazz, rock, funk and Latin flavors that are guaranteed to make you move! It takes me almost all the way up to Atlanta on I-75, and what a pleasant drive it is with this CD playing!

Your fingers will be snapping; your feet will be tapping! One listen to this fine group of accomplished jazz musicians and you will be a fan of Skeebo Knight and want to hear more. A varied mix of tunes; some will have you dancing; each will have you groovin.' This group of men are friends and it shows! Love it! Thanks, Skeebo!

  • I Likes That Groove !!
    author: David Oliver

These are some sweet tunes!! These guys know how to find a groove and serve up some very memorable and creative music. Jazz, rock, funk, boogie-woogie--there's a little bit of everything here. This is solid stuff which should especially please those who enjoy multi-style improvisational jams. I particularly love the solid rhythm section. The drums lay the steady groundwork and the rest of the guys just fall in line like seasoned pros. The horn players are especially tasteful and there's some sweet Hammond B-3 action as well on a few of the tracks (check out I Like's That). I could see this stuff being used on a movie soundtrack. There's a lot of creative energy here and I get the impression that these guys had a fun time making this record, as it shows through their playing. Great stuff, overall. Whether you're a music aficionado who enjoys progressive tunes or you just want something to turn up extra LOUD in your car and jam out to, this is a great CD to have. Highly recommended.

  • Another fine musical product from Georgia.
    author: Dave Tucker

Tales from Wimbish Woods is another great example of the incredible music that is created in middle Georgia. Skeebo laid down the basic theme and his friends joined in to add their contribution to the pasionate journey. The journey takes you through Skeebo's experiences growing up in a typical American middle class neighborhood. Solid rythem, cool guitar, exciting keyboards, blazing hornes, and magical percussion best describes this CD. Close your eyes, tune in, and experience the grooves. I bought 20 copies.
