One fateful night a monthly Tokyo ska event, in August 2005 brought a big bald Canadian guy into contact with cute little Japanese girl. They were both looking for different things; he a girlfriend; her an English speaking female vocalist.
Turns out they found neither.
Long story short: he found a band and they found someone to jump around.
The band rocks, the singer sucks, but a good time is had by everyone!
Originally, the band was to be named "The Feelings", but after some discussion they settled on " The Fitness" in keeping with some of their musical influences MADNESS; The Selecter; C ONNIE F RANCIS.
In an effort to work the word "ska" into the name they finally decided on "the skabays" in February 2007.
Skabays comes from "sukebe", which means pervert. It is not exactly clear why the girls chose this name, but there have been rumours it has something to do with the Canadian vocalist.
