notes

"exhilarating and heart-breaking in turns, but always beautiful and intensely moving"
(Dunoon Observer and Argyllshire Standard)

Dance strathspeys and reels, gut-wrenching Gaelic airs, a deep sense of tradition, an eye to the future, Norwegian tunes, a free-wheeling, gutsy improvisation on Spike on a Bike ...

The fifth generation of her family on the same farm in the Scottish Highlands, Sarah-Jane Summers was brought up steeped in the local fiddle tradition. Add to this a love of Norwegian fiddling and you get a unique combination, described as "lush Highland fiddle music with a Nordic twist" (Cromarty Old Brewery Arts Centre).

The fiddle and hardanger player in Nu-Nordic band, Fribo, Sarah-Jane has performed all over the world and at festivals such as Womad and Celtic Connections. She has played with many top outfits, including Malinky (with Karine Polwart), Box Club, The Grand Union Orchestra...

Keen to pass on the tradition and encourage others on their own personal musical journey, Sarah-Jane loves teaching and is the principal tutor at Glasgow's RSAMD (Junior Academy), as well as teaching regularly world-wide. Swannanoa Gathering in the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina and The Rocky Mountain Fiddle Camp in Colorado were particular stand-out moments, not just for the amazing scenery!

Musicians on the album:
Sarah-Jane Summers - fiddle and hardanger fiddle
Ewan MacPherson (Fribo) - 6 & 12 string guitars, Jew's harp
Kevin McGuire (Eddie Reader/Karine Polwart) - acoustic bass

"the distinctive fiddle and hardanger fiddle playing of Sarah-Jane is a revelation - so light and jaunty in one tune, all darkness and brooding in another" (Taplas)
