notes
On the hand numbered, limited edition (369 copies)of "Is It IN Yet?", The Size Queens re-imagine the glory days of bands with the hair and teeth of The Bee Gees, celebrate the second coming of Woodstock, and follow the marching orders of faith healer and great anti-war activist Shirly Phelps Roeper. They wander through a Jain bird hospital, and consider the moral ramifications of not watching "My Fair Brady." They eventually emerge from the muddle of the past 40 years with full faith that trucking jobs await us all, whether as contractors in another war, or on Fed Ex trucks carrying .99 cent CDs to your homes in the sexy but quiet exurbs. There are numerous hopeful scenarios here. The band applied serious limitations to the making of this record. The CD was written in 1 brief month of 2006 and recorded over 2 days, mostly, live. Much of it was improvised, with lead singer Adam Klein, counting on the spirit of the lord to carry him through those verses. Co-writer and keyboardist Michael Mullen was commanded, simply, "Embellish!" Drummer, Tim Mooney (of American Music Club) did not know any of the songs until he played them, nor did Laura Hanna have parts for Pianola, Glockenspiel, or for the drums she contributed to "Weather Underground Goodbye". Carlos Forster (of the band For Stars), was asked to create harmonies on the spot, and mastered the Bowie "Satellite of Love" bum, bum, bums we imagined for the song, "Plug In." More importantly, guitarist Nicole Brodsky, with only a basic knowledge of Barre chords, drew upon her nascent and abundant musicality and sense of humor to play 13 tracks of this sprawling and ambitious record. She complained only infrequently of the pain in her hand, terming it "The Claw." Tim played guitar on "Quiet Homes," but in typical fashion, the liner notes screwed him out of this credit. Similarly, Dale Pickard had never played bass in a band before, nor had he played with a drummer at a single rehearsal, before this record was recorded. And all of this was done without group therapists. We also encourage you to view our first ROCK VIDEO for "Quiet Homes" on our myspace site: http://www.myspace.com/thesizequeensband .
