notes

Singer-songwriter Scott Sivakoff showcases his original folk rock music on this debut album, Different Directions. The CD features story songs that capture universally relatable scenarios such as the challenges of moving into another life phase or the isolation as a family grows apart over the years.

In addition to performing his original music, Scott has a flair for performing the music of Harry Chapin, one of his biggest influences. Scott has performed internationally with original members of Harry Chapin's band and the extended Chapin family, who value his extensive knowledge of Harry Chapin and his music. In fact, Different Directions features Harry’s brother, Steve Chapin, on keyboards.

Scott has also been an active participant in working for social causes for many years, performing in countless benefit concerts. As a member of L.U.N.C.H. (Local United Network to Combat Hunger), which uses the power of popular music to produce positive social action, Scott has raised thousands of dollars to help feed the hungry.

Also, Scott performs as part of a musical trio, Looking for Curly, with Larry Sprigg and Jerry Prince. Featuring vocals, guitar, bass, mandolin and keyboards, Looking for Curly plays a variety of music centered around '50's, '60's and 70's folk music and rock and roll. The music includes covers of popular folk music from musicians such as Simon and Garfunkel, Steve Goodman, Jimmy Buffet, and the Kingston Trio, mixed in with acoustic renditions of rock and roll songs of that era. Looking for Curly performances provide many opportunities for the audience to sing along to familiar songs, while also introducing Scott’s original songs.

  • Excellent debut CD! Great lyrics, music and mixing.

This is Scott Sivakoff's debut CD, and I found it extremely enjoyable. I have listened to it several times over the few days since I received it, and already have some of the songs stuck in my head. To comment on just a few of the tracks: The title cut, Different Directions, has a great mix of words and music. Wrong Side of the Tracks has a very soulful and reflective sound. Silence has a Music of Its Own has a theme reminiscient of Jackson Browne's, Stay, and Harry Chapin's, You are the Only Song. I Want It Back is a very lively song which has probably received the most repeat plays on my CD player. A very nice electric guitar solo and beat. Hey Girl and 1000 Miles Away round out my most enjoyed list, but I don't mean to take anything away from the other tracks. These were just my personal favorites. While I am no technical sound expert, I thought the mixing was very professional, and was particularly impressed with this first CD from Scott. I highly recommend it to fans of Harry Chapin, Jack Johnson, Jim Croce, and other artists who combine thoughtful lyrical messages with memorable music.
