notes

The Sirens, an all-female group from the Washington, DC area, play straight forward, high energy rock 'n' roll with a classic punk edge. Influenced by such old school punks as The Ramones, The Clash, Joan Jett, and Blondie, The Sirens have achieved a no-nonsense sound all their own. The Sirens are Melissa (vocals), Cindy (guitar), Kristin (bass), and Tammy (drums). Coming together from different bands, backgrounds, and influences, these chicks have been rocking the DC area since May 2002 and have played to a huge dedicated fan base from the beginning.

If you're looking for whiny, emo, stick your head in the oven love songs and ballads, then look elsewhere! You won't find it here. What you will find is raucous rock and roll about all sorts of "Bad Girls," from sluts to serial killers. "Bad Girls" - Buy it today!

Great CD! Very fresh and cool. Exactly how this Garage Punk'n Roll should sound. Hopefully we will hear more of this all Girl Band!

  • Bad Girls fondly recalls multiple generations of female-fueled bands
author: Cincinnati CityBeat - Mike Breen

If you were lucky enough to score the new No Thanks! Punk Rock box-set from Rhino Records this year from Santa, you were likely struck by how unabashedly new bands are copping that vintage Punk/Post-Punk style. Several of the songs on the historical collection could have been released last week and easily gotten into the rotation on 97X or Subterranean. Oddly, there's still something resoundingly fresh and inventive (well, "post-inventive") about new Post-Punk revivers, even after a refresher listen to old tracks from Joy Division, Gang of Four and The Pop Group. And if you're a stickler for imagination, it could be worse -- bands could be ripping off Warrant or something equally abhorrent. Washington, D.C.-based quartet, The Sirens, stir similar emotions, crafting a sound that is unquestionably derivative, yet still put together well enough to be effective. There's a history lesson's worth of name-checks one could come up with in describing the band's debut release, Bad Girls. Thanks to the band members' individual skills and their collective no-nonsense style, listening to Bad Girls fondly recalls multiple generations of female-fueled bands, from the rough-shod power of The Runaways, to early-period Blondie to smoother L7. A sense of humor only adds to the allure. On the fiery "Girls Wanna Rock," the band distills women-in-music issues into one bluntly effective statement, even doing some of their own name-checking: "Patti, Debbie, Wendy O/Joni, Chrissie, where'd ya go?" The Sirens might not be in those icons' ranks yet, but the band's sentiment -- and music -- would surely be appreciated and respected by each one of them. (Mike Breen)

  • BAD GIRLS is every bit as good as I expected it to be

BAD GIRLS is every bit as good as I expected it to be. Catchy songs, witty lyrics, played with power, this is exactly the kind of music I love. Rock on - Joe

  • How do you spell relief from top 40 heartburn? S-I-R-E-N-S
    author: Seattle Rocker

Rock and roll as it was meant to be: hard driving, angry at times, cynical, not without irony, and, the most important ingredient: unapologetic fun! This full length cd has some incredible original songs on it! Check it out, then go see them live!

  • The Sirens come to party, and leave the crowd behind like a wrong out swab.
author: Metal Maidens magazine / Toine van Poorten

THE SIRENS are an all-female band from Washington DC. They exist for about two years now, and they sound like JOAN JETT (“Get Outta My Face”) mixed with a touch of early BLONDIE, THE RUNAWAYS and THE RAMONES. Punk rock, with a melodic background. They come to party, and leave the crowd behind like a wrong out swab. Then they leave the club, searching for more victims. That’s what ‘Bad Girls’ do, when they play in a band. In “Sixteen” we strongly hear the influences of THE RUNAWAYS. Their opening sentence is the first sentence of “Cherry Bomb”, then they change the lyrics but the influence of the band is still around. THE SIRENS are Melissa Duncan on vocals, Cindy Chambers on guitar, Kristin Gray on bass and Tammy Hooper on drums, and all ten songs on this thirty minute debut album are self-written. A debut CD to be proud of and I think that their second album may become a real blast. So watch out for THE SIRENS ladies and gentlemen, you have been warned here! www.thesirensband.com. gives you all the information you need to know about the band.

  • Bad Girls is the name of the disc and you should get it just to have it...It is
author: Music Monthly, August 2003, The Wollan Report by Laurin Wollan

The Sirens hail from DC and they have mastered The Misfits crunch. Cindy Chambers is on the vocals and plays the guitar. Melissa Duncan is on the percussion and lead vocals. Kristin Gray is all over the bass and vocals like that wart is on Lemmy's face and Tammy Hooper is on the drums and vocals in perfect timing. The opening track, "Settle" would cause The Donna's plane to crash immediately if played at the appropriate volume. Bad Girls is the name of the disc and you should get it just to have it. Four women at once is both scary and fun. "Marlene" is awesome and resonates. Don't F*&K with this band, even if you'd really like it. It is hard to single out tunes so I will review the entire disc soon. It is just that damn good. I hope they hold it together, the world could use this energy for change. Their music destroys and strokes in simultaneity....

  • Awesome rock and it's all originals!!

Listen to just one song and you're hooked, but this CD doesn't stop there - one head-bobbin', foot-stompin', rockin' song after another. Check out this disc.

  • FINALLY, AN ALL CHICK ROCK BAND!!
    author: Mega Fan

The power of the guitar and drums is only part of this all-chick band's appeal. Have you listened to the lyrics?? Awesome, even hilarious storylines with a beat that doesn't quit. You may even find yourself singing "Evil Bitch" and "Get Outta My Face" at work. Would that be wrong?? No way!! I'm SOLD!!

The Sirens live up to their name. Attracting attention to their song while distracting one from anything else. Their energy is infectious, their sound is riveting.

  • If Joey Ramone were a babe...
    author: Sarah R.

So, if the Ramones were babes - this is what they would've sounded like...only better! Great lyrics - great rhythm - great guitar solos. If you have anything by the Pretenders in your collection, you MUST have this CD!

  • Girls Wanna Rock and these babes do it!
    author: Cece

The premier CD from The Sirens will blow your socks and/or fishnets off. Whether you're an old punk from the 70s like me, or just discovering the best form of rock-and-roll, this CD is for you. Many of the songs tell a story ("Marlene" for example) which makes the music more fun. This band is also not to be missed live.
