notes
Silica Bliss music shimmers. Its a diamond in the rough. Its sublime, ethereal and classic pop artistry and a well-kept secret for too long. Silica Bliss are Dan Carr and Steve McGlaughlin. Dan grew up in Peterborough, a small town outside of Toronto, Canada. After playing in a few local bands he decided to travel across Europe, with his guitar, busking to pay for food and a bed. Steve grew up in Melbourne but had the same European busking idea. They met in Prague, just as the Velvet Revolution was in full swing, when Steve stumbled across Dan playing on the Charles Bridge (that spans the Vltava River). They struck up a friendship and began to perform together. Their immediate success as a busking duo in Prague gave them the luxury of writing and rehearsing during the day, playing for a few hours in the evening, then spending the rest of the night exploring the bars and clubs. After a few months, they decided to resume their separate travel plans, but planned to meet up down the track and continue the partnership. A year later, they regrouped in Melbourne and Silica Bliss was born. As songwriters, they are true collaborators encouraging, editing and pushing each other to make sure each song they write is a stand-alone gem. Dan provides the vocals, Steve plays guitar and arranges. The first Silica Bliss release was a self-titled album (in 2000) that attracted a lot of industry interest and critical acclaim. It also led to Silica Bliss signing a record deal with In-Fidelity and a publishing deal with In-Fidelity/Sony/ATV. The second album, Cast in White, is being prepared for release in Jan 2007.

Their trademark harmonies are outstanding.
author: BullsheetTheir trademark harmonies are outstanding. Silica Bliss compliment each other both vocally and instrumentally. Reminiscent of old Lennon-McCartney harmonies but with a more modern day feel about it.
