A voice that goes down smooth as molasses and songwriting that captures the American landscape. This Americana songwriter blends the bluegrass of the Arkansas Ozarks where she grew up with the wide open spaces of the West where she resides.

notes

"It doesn't take long for me to know if a disc is great or not; Sally Shuffield's, Ties That Bind, most definitely falls into the former category. Lyrical content and melody are wedded with ease and crowned with Sally's gorgeous voice. A deep intelligence fuels these songs; the listener need only be open to their sense of nuance."
-George Francis Maida, "The Electric Croude"

"Her Voice goes down smooth and easy and she's comfortable with her music...If you love bluegrass without the nasal twang, well-written traditional themes, pretty vocals and great instrumentation that mixes a little country and Americana into the sound, then this (album) is one for your listening collection and pleasure."
-Les Reynolds, Indie-Music.com

"Great singing, great songs, and some fantastic production. We weren't able to put the CD down. Get one of your own and let's see if you can let go of it."
-Roz and Howard Larman, FolkScene, KPIG

"Ties That Bind" contains 13 original tracks, ranging in style from the bluegrass number, "Whiskey in Heaven," to the rock-a-billy "All Roads Lead to You," to the soulful, "Still Stands Time." It has received glowing reviews and radio play all across the country. The CD was co-produced by Greg Schochet and Ed Caner, who both provide beautiful instrumentation on the fiddle and mandolin throughout the album. In addition, "Ties That Bind" features some of the best musical talent in Colorado, such as Sally Van Meter on dobro, Pete Wernick on banjo, and Celeste Krenz on backup vocals.

The songs on the CD evoke images of both rural Arkansas and western mining towns, reflecting a blend of cultures, as well as a blending of folk and bluegrass styles. The songs tell stories about traveling through life and the lessons learned and people met along the way. According to Pete Wernick, "This record shows Sally's talent for writing intriguing and original songs about real life."

"Ties That Bind" was mixed by James Tuttle and mastered by David Glasser at Airshow Mastering in Boulder, CO

The words are poetic, expressing the thoughts of the soul and lyrics that stay with the listener. In Dreams should be in a movie and the variety of the songs on the cd shows a variety of moods and experience to which the listener can relate. I can't stop singing the songs.
