After years of playing in various local bands, Aaron MacCaughey (McCoy) and the brothers Wojniak (Mike & Chad) came together one fateful eve to form Sheldon Marsh. The trio was asked to prepare a set for a local venue which was in need of an opening act. Within a matter of days, SM was able to write half a dozen songs, which were enchanting enough to elicit praise from all who attended.
This occurred in November, 2002. Over the next eight months, SM played to appreciative audiences throughout the Midwest. During this time, they shared the stage with Seattle's XL427, Dayton's Mike Ruetschle, Cleveland's The All Golden, Orange's Midsummer & Huntington Beach's Joy Electric. All the while, Mike, Aaron & Chad were crafting songs that would later comprise their first full-length, titled, "The Everlasting Glow of City Lights."
Despite the accolades SM received, the sound produced by this trio consistently evaded categorization. Some described their music as thought-provoking, haunting or even sleep-inducing; while others attempted comparisons (Kings of Convenience, Guster, Low) which, most admit, fell short. One fan had this to say:
Think of it as Pedro the Lion meets Bob Dylan, or Death Cab for Cutie meets Gordon Lightfoot; & then mix in a little Midwest for flavor... Their harmonies are simple, echoing, vintage. Their sound is understated. They've found the perfection in imperfection.
Someone else once commented that SM's music sounds like "a pillow fight with clouds." This is perhaps the most accurate description: it hints at the surreal, yet hovers close enough to reality that observers (listeners) can relate; it's a perfect picture of the soothing effect of SM's music.
Today, Mike, Aaron & Chad continue to write meaningful songs about love, loss & life. As part of the Columbus-based Wide-eyed Records- a collective of independent musicians- SM is able to reach a variety of audiences & the number of SM-appreciators continues to grow.

It's amazing to me
author: Noah NicholsAmazing how you can have 3 musicians get together and make something that is so comforting, something that isn't distracting in any way, something that could pacify almost anybody in any situation. This album is exactly that something. With barely any beats used, except in a few areas, this is some of the most stripped down, gorgeous folk I've heard in a while. It is quite enjoying to hear the vocal builds and overlays over such beautiful and lavish instrumentation. Memorable parts come at you often here. The talent on hand is definately without question and you know what's even better? This project is now a full band and in my opinion, they are one of the best bands, pound for pound, in Ohio. I suggest you go to their myspace and hear the new material to hear for yourself. In the meantime, see where the ideas and where the hope all began. Start right here and by all means, enjoy it.
