notes
Prepare to be surprised and delighted. On this new Shalshelet CD you will hear Chanukah music you've never heard before; you'll hear new settings of familiar prayers from from synagogue and home -- and some that may not be familiar -- in styles that will make you sit up and listen: from jazz, Latin rhythms, Israeli pop, and contemporary classical, to hasidic. Take a musical journey through these 15 new compositions that represent some of the most interesting work being composed for traditional Jewish texts today.
The music on this CD was chosen through competition and performed at Shalshelet's Second International Festival of New Jewish Liturgical Music on June 11, 2006. Shalshelet’s international music festivals bring together composers, performers, workshop participants, and the public to celebrate and circulate new music set to traditional texts.
Enjoy Shalshele'ts second CD - Shalshelet 2006. Coming soon: Companion Songbook from Shalshelet's 2006 Festival.
Shalshelet's Third International Festival of New Jewish Liturgical Music takes place in Milwaukee, Wisconsin June 13 to 16, 2008.

Lots of lovely, interesting music.
author: Emily BlankIf possible, the music on this CD is even more fresh and interesting than that of the 1st Intenational Festival of New Jewish Music. The performances are very pleasant too.
