The spiffy re-release of the 1999 live album, complete with special extra track at the end! Featuring tracks such as the rousing "All of This," the touching "Rain and Sunshine," and the downright goofy "Bomb Threat in New Rochelle," this snapshot of a hard-working, hard-playing live troubadour just about lives up to its name!
Says Sam; "I could talk about my musical influences but then I would have to admit the hours I spent dancing to Duran Duran in my bedroom years ago. So instead I'll tell you that I graduated from Cornell University, (I swear I was over them by then... but I'll always have a soft spot for John Taylor...) and currently I'm based in my hometown of New York City and touring from San Francisco to Scotland.

    My 13 year old daughter plays Sam Shaber every morning as she gets ready for school. I can't help but hear the real passion of this talented young performer ooze out of her music. "Perfect" is a wonderful collection from the first song until the last. Put it on and loop it and you will get caught up in "Perfect" too.

    This CD is perfect! Wonderful example of indie/folk music. I first heard Sam Shaber on NPR in Kansas City and I have been in love with her sound ever since. I only wish I'd found her sooner.

    When I first checked out Sam Shaber's promo materials, I thought "Oh no, not another acoustic guitarist"! But then I listened to her live, and she played a track from this album entitled Honey. I can tell you that Sam Shaber is not the typical singer-songwriter. She is vibrant, expressive, sexy, a talented musician, and true to her art. The chords and vocals on Honey were simple, yet heartfelt and expressive. Her guitar was hypnotic; the instrument's bass chords for Honey were surprisingly memorable, and I was hooked. I hung on her every word. Live music is incredible, and that's why you should pick up this live CD if you want to experience real emotion. She also had an interesting syle of playing which she dubbed "urban bluegrass", and I even heard a slight reggae influence as well in some of the other songs from this album. Pick this one up and support live music!

    I first heard Sam at the Cup & Chaucer in Walton, NY. She inspired me and definetly caught my attention. I saw her again a year later and bought the cd, perfect. Within a week i had every song memorized and was singing along. This cd had everything from love, heartbreak, and just being alive. Its simply wonderful. Ive see Sam live 3 times now and am looking forward to the next time she comes to upstate NY! (hint hint)

    The first time I heard Sam Shaber, she sang "In the Bunker" at a one song open mic in New York City. The story, rhythm and melody caught me. After that night I always listened carefully to Sam's songs whenever I had the opportunity. I was rewarded with "Rooftop," "Bomb Threat in New Rochelle," and the absolutely exquisite, "Perfect." I attend every Sam Shaber concert I can. With each performance her voice grows stronger and more lyrical, her guitar playing more confident and comfortable, and her songs more deeply connected with her own intimacies and therfore with ours. Lines Like "silent as a lover's absent breath," from "Hanglide," "Sometimes it hurts to heare my name," from "Sometines It Hurts" and all the imagery in "Perfect" expose us to ourselves. The dog "drooling on that guy in the Armani duds" from "Bomb Threat in New Rochelle," and the statement "when I sleep / I look just like all those perfume ads, I swear" from "Perfect" make us luagh. And "Somehow in all of this / I have found my home" from "All of This," make us recognize the homes we have created for ourselves in our own lives. Now with great joy I hear Sam being played on WERS in Boston or at Club Passim in between sets of featured artists. Sam Shaber is a gifted singer/songwriter and she gets better all the time. I feel lucky to have found her music.

    Sam Shaber's new and entirely acoustic album perfecT epitomizes the striking beauty and simplicity of one voice and one guitar. This dynamic and intimately recorded album draws out every last bit of raw emotion that was put into each note and every word. The refreshingly crisp acoustic recordings range from the more serious "Honey" and "Rain and Sunshine" to the quirky lyrical themes of "Bomb Threat in New Rochelle" and "Walkin at Night"; each track exhibiting entirely different muscial structures and rhythms from one another. Shaber's unique vocal range combined with her outstanding rapport with the audience bind the album together making it feel as though you were at every show/recording.     Wow! I bought this CD because I was intrigued by the cover and the sound clips. I'm completely entranced by her voice and quirky lyrics. There is real passion behind her singing and one can definitely hear it.

    If music is emotion in the air, then Sam Shaber scents a room with feelings that are intriguingly direct and familiar. The guy in "Bomb Threat in New Rochelle"? Could be me. Loss of a friend? Unrequited love? Loneliness in the city? Finding "The One''? It's easy to relate. She succeeds in making those things her own, though, because she's done her homework. She uses her clear, strong voice like a veteran pitcher, varying speed and location: no monotone here. Fingerstyle or power chords, she's an accomplished guitarist with warm, full tone. And she's a very clever songwriter. Evolved and catchy, her melodies and arrangements never drone or get muddy - none of that 1960's guitar-Mass sound, which an old girlfriend liked to call "early folk yuch." The CD "Perfect" captures Shaber's humor and easy way with the audience. But it doesn't convey her unrestrained spontaneity - like when she whipped out a camera mid-set and took shots of some old friends she hadn't seen in years as they scrounged for seats at Koffee? in New Haven. She gives the impression that she sees and hears everything and everyone around her, an informed intelligence, even over that hawking espresso machine. One can only wonder what response she gets on tour from the New Country crowd. She probably could play the theme from "Rawhide" from behind chicken wire and make it work. But I wouldn't be tossing beer bottles because like the subject of "Perfect," song after song, I'd love it.

    Sam's new live album "Perfect" is a joy to listen to. Her vocals are strong and passionate. I always find myself singing along to the second song "Somewhere in all of this I have found a home.." I love it! There's other good stuff too: funny talking in "I Go Walking At Night" and sad lyrics. This is a very good live album!

    I stumbled upon Sam quite fortuitously at Passims in Cambridge recently and the pleasure was all mine. Her unique vocal stylings are reminiscent of of the edgy,but sweet transistional female blues/jass singers of the 30's and 40's, yet her music is consistently cutting edge and moving. She is a delight to watch, listen to and experience.
