notes

Blending Hot Rocks with one half Reggae-Funk and a dash of Hip-Hop, Selah quenches the thirst of the most rabid groove fanatic. Even though Selah is in the same vein as The Police, The Clash, and Sublime, it is impossible to compare their sound.
Based out of the mountains of Boone, NC with a rich history in the Southeastern underground since 1996, Selah transformed their musical style as they traversed the country. Their relentless tour schedule has created a widespread fan-base with little or no airplay. Their energetic live act has become the foundation of Selah's ever-growing success and the group has performed with some of the biggest acts in the business, such as Widespread Panic, Steel Pulse, The P-funk All Stars, Vertical Horizon, Train, Burning Spear, Israel Vibration, Eek-A-Mouse, Two Skinny J's, The Wailers, Splendor, Yellow Man, Beanie Man, Black Uhuru, and Nine days, just to name a few.
Selah's 3rd CD Night&Day, just released January 2002, opens new doors in the groups evolution. Over the years Mark Evangelist (vocals and guitar) has developed a deep musical union with what has become Selah's permanent line up; Kevin Freeman (Bass) and Steven Finch (Drums). The three have developed a concise pop blend of funky-rock-reggae, bridging the gap between cult and mainstream status.

  • HIGHER SOURCE INTERSTELLAR REGGAE AT ITS BEST !!!
    author: C()NGA SEE /C()NGA SEA/C()NGA C

    Higher source interstellar reggae at its best!!! Selah and Mark Evangelist continue to soar higher breaking dimensional barriers and genre barriers with this release. Many bands/artists fear to embrace change when definitions of genres seem to lend themselves to strict categorization. Mark Evangelist and Selah choose a diferent wave to ride as they travel to the core of the spiritual reggae experience. Seemingly set in the future where trends and history inter-twine and take a back-seat to sounds that move your body and soul, this release secures Evangelist's rightful place as both founding member and innovator to a category of reggae music that he helped create. From this bands beginnings in 1993 to 2023 they will cast-off the definition of what is acceptable in the reggae genre in favor of what feels right. Today it's reggae/funk/space...tomorrow...we'll have to catch them live to see what's next. A MUST SEE LIVE BAND! Play them DJ!
