CD Review: Short agonies
Musical gems are usually hard to find especially under the tons of so called self-produced CDs in New York City. Here is one you should listen to if you like to wind down after the daily grind in the Big Apple.
French based composer Sébastien Guillen has crafted eighteen pieces of classical music strikingly well performed by violinist Patricio Díaz-Canas from Spain.
Look out for a work titled: Short Agonies, a misleading title after all, since it is no agony to listen, but sheer pleasure.

Short Agonies
author: Pat BianculliGuillen spins out one appealing tune after another on this rather eccentric and satisfying collection of violin solos. There is a baroque sensibility about the project, yet the music is contemporary and consistently good. At one minute you hear Bach's Chaconne, dark and funereal, at another we are in the heart of minimalism, creating images of our own to fit the music. Well done, and despite its rather dark foreboding theme, the music is transcendent. Violinist, Patricio Diaz plays up a storm on this one.
