news update 6/7/01: "Water" is currently #5 on the Christian CHR charts nationwide!!! It has also been chosen for the SongDiscovery CD which is distributed to 24,000 worship leaders.
Worship leader for Thirst Ministries, in Bellingham, Washington, and at the offshoot worship events and seminars each year, 27 year old Sean Hall is combining rootsy, acoustic driven rock music with passionate, worshipful lyrics that is touching young people around the globe.
Sean was recorded live at the Avalanche youth worship festival and the resulting release of the song "Water" has been widely acclaimed and is currently #5 on the CHR charts nationwide.
Several of Sean's worship songs, including "Water", are being sung in worship services across North America and internationally.
Sean's latest release, THIRST, is a collection of 11 original worship songs and includes a studio version of "Water".
The album was recorded with a "live in the studio" feel and shines with contributions from producers Jaben Pennell and Michael James, the latter of which has produce/mixed/engineered for such mainstream bands as Hole, Alice In Chains, Brand New Radicals and AJ Croche.
THIRST includes songs such as "Thing I Love The Most", which highlights Sean's two handed harmonic tapping technique, "Dive In (I Could Never Imagine)", which was a spontaneous addition to the album recorded just minutes before the bass player, Sam Martinez, had to catch his flight home (he just made it by the way), and "Free", which, like many of the songs on the album, came out of a quiet time with God.
"Worshiping God is the very reason we were created. I love to retreat to an alone place with my guitar and let my heart and emotions flow out to God. It's in the intimate times that I feel most fulfilled in life and it's out of these times that most of my songs are written."
Another obvious highlight of THIRST is also a highlight of Sean's life-his wife, Julie, who also sings on the album.
"People always come up to Julie and me after worship events and say that it sounds like our voices were made for each other. I believe our closeness comes out in the way we sing together."
The title of the album, THIRST, comes from a lyric of "Water".
"You are my God, I seek you. My soul thirsts for you - my flesh faints for you. In a dry and weary land, you are my water."
It is also interesting that THIRST was recorded in the "dry and weary land" of Las Vegas.
"There were many times sitting in a sweltering hot studio that we felt we could really understand the "dry and weary land" lyric! It brought the song to life for us. Every time we walked outside it was a reminder that God meets us where we are, even in the middle of a desert."
