notes
This is not an uncommon story. If you want something done, at least your way, then you do it yourself. I taught myself to play every instument I could get my hands on just to make music like the people I admire. I grew up wanting to be among the likes of Beck, or Mr Bungle, or Tom Waits. I started releasing indie cassettes of original songs at age 12. I couldn't afford a four track recorder, I used a Kareoke machine instead. I got into digital recording in 2000, and realized that I could make my shitty home recordings sound better and still not spend any money. I would release a new ep (short cd with 6 or so songs) every 6 months, selling them to the same two dozen friend/fans that would care. As time went on the recordings got better and the songcraft, more focused (a tragedy to some). In late '05 I became a registered songwriter and publisher with ASCAP and started doing commercial work including movie scores and jingles. "If...Dog...Rabbit," is an expression I heard that folds out to, "if the dog wouldn't have stopped to take a shit he would've caught the rabbit." This statement to me, justifies having made 12 releases in 5 years. This album is inconcise and weird and scatterbrained, and it wasn't intended any other way. Some of the craft and production is rocky, but that was the foundation to what I do now. And, done any other way I wouldn't have caught my own metaphorical rabbit.
Love always,
Scott Paris
