notes
Scott F. Hall has worked with sound as an art form for exhibition (sonic art) since 1985. His audible sculptures have been best described as “soundtracks for films seen only in the mind.”
In his fifth solo CD, Hall presents seventeen new pieces with a total duration of over forty-three minutes. Several works are recorded as one-take live tracks but more often, the artist tends to use sound like a sculptural material: he gradually builds up layer upon layer of precise harmony, melody, and rhythm to create intricate pieces that are vividly pictorial in their impact on the ear and the mind of the listener.
On Scultura Sana 5, Hall performs on electric bass guitar, synthesizer, sampler, the rare Vietnamese electric dan bau, and two entirely new instruments invented by the artist: the 6 and 4-stringed electric bass harmonitar.
