Scott F. Hall's "sound sculpture" has been accurately described as “soundtracks for films seen only in the mind.” On his fourth CD, Hall presents fourteen new pieces composed almost entirely of precisely layered tracks of electric bass guitar.

notes

Scott F. Hall has experimented with sound as an art form for exhibition (sonic art) since 1985. His audible sculptures have perhaps been most accurately described as “soundtracks for films seen only in the mind.”

On his fourth CD, Hall presents fourteen new pieces with a duration of forty minutes total playing time. The artist's work here is composed almost entirely of precisely layered electric bass guitar tracks. Each piece is an exploration of intricate rhythms and expressive harmonies created intuitively through a repetitious, additive technique that is ultimately indebted to the ancient musical forms known as “canon” and “round.” Hall’s work in Scultura Sana 4 is delicate, technically meticulous, emotionally rich, and remarkably diverse in tone despite the homogenous use of a single electric bass guitar throughout.

Bravo! Scott Hall outdoes himself once again. This album has a dark sonic palette, reminiscent of H. R. Giger's art. Bass songs from another world flow from beginning to end.
