notes
Zappa meets Lehrer Meets Weird Al Meets topics like Bill Clinton, Matthew Shepherd, the Peanuts and Weed.
Pleading the First is Eric's attempt to be rid once and for all of these horrible songs that just won't die.
Wonderfully offensive songs.
You'll cringe. And you'll laugh.

X3 I love it!!!
author: Anna TThis album is fantastic!!! My favorite so far is number 10: "Come Out of the Closet". I know plenty of people that song applies to. "Stoned People" reminds me of most of my friends....it's all true!!!
You twisted bastard...
author: JoI looked at the title of this CD and I thought, "If his mother hates it, mine'll have a heart attack" - and I bought it. After speedy delivery all the way to Australia (I was most impressed), I promptly went and bought another few albums. I'm eagerly awaiting those ones. It's a really good thing CDs don't wear out like vinyl does, because I haven't stopped playing it. And much to the horror of my aforementioned mother, even when I visit her I have found myself bursting out at random with things like, "My ex-friend Katie lent me her Epilady, and I found out how loud I could SCREEEEAM!" It's a little more difficult to explain, though, when I sing the chorus of "Telemarket Trailer-Park-It Trash"... Lova ya, Eric, you twisted individual!
Fan*******tastic!!!
author: Becca from ChicagoExcellent material, very lighthearted and irreverent. I actually played this CD for my own mother and she loved it...spent the remainder of a happy weekend singing "these are things that stoned people do" with me. Highly recommend to people of all ages who have well developed senses of humor!!! :)
Wut a sic Bastid!
author: Adam R. - now in the Bible BeltThe only thing more offensive than listening to this CD was seeing my name listed in the credits!!! Eric, you sick puppy, you are still my idol! And to think that my Grandmother said, "Eric Schwartz, he sounds like such a nice Jewish boy" ... Hugs, Adam (now in VA)
Laugh until it hurts!!!
author: CoralI never heard of "Red" until this album. I wore out my finger rewinding the CD because I was laughing so hard I could not hear it!!! I laughed until my son thought I was going to be sick!! Excellent albumn, loved the slick reversing cover, too! I like the catchy tunes, you find yourself humming the tunes to the most inappropiate songs at work, just be careful you don't start singing the lyrics, or you might be out of a job!!! Can't wait to hear more from this talented young man.
Clever irreverence!
author: Greg TremblayI will never look at Charlie Brown the same way again. I had always suspected but now I know!
Love the CD
author: JulieI love the cd, I love the cd, I love the cd. Oh yeah, did I mention that I love the cd? :)

Doctor Demento called this one of the two best albums of 2000. Zappa meets Lehrer Meets Weird Al meets the Peanuts and Weed.
My mom wouldn't like it either, But Eric rules!
author: Greg T.This album is hysterical. "Charliesomthing" is a perfect illustration of why Comic strip Characters don't usually age, (I'd hate to think what would happen to Dennis the Menace) while "Taco Bills Cannon" pokes fun at Clinton with style and class. "Pleading the First" is a brilliant mix of musical styles, and satirical fun.
I'm offended, and I like it, dammit!
author: Rand HubiakOh my God, this stuff is funny! The trinitiy of songs built about the presidential scandals, and the Vince Guaraldi rip-off with the demented adult version of the Peanuts are nothing short of perverse genius. I brought this to work (okay, don't YOU try that, or you will likely have some sort of grievance filed against you... but I work in a design firm where we are all Mac-based and therefore have no need for PC) and had the office rolling on the floor. The only track I objected to was the Telemarketer one because it seemed to lack the creative genius that made everything else on this album so delightfully offensive... it was simply vulgar. But, hey, if Synchronicity can still be considered a classic album even with Stewart Copeland's "Mother" included in the track listing...
Very funny!
author: Matt HawesI found the CD to be very funny and entertaining. Eric Schwartz is a talented singer/songwriter and I hope to hear more of his novelty songs in the future!
"Wicket" funny (in the Boston sense of the word)
author: RossI had the pleasure of witnessing the live recording of this CD last year. My sides hurt so badly by the end of the night, I thought there was permanent damage. And there was, I guess. Now every time I think of Matthew Shepard, Eric's damn happy-jazz tune buzzes through my head. It only takes one listen to be hooked. In this CD, Eric's raw genius shines through -- in a Hannibal Lechter sort of way. Bravo!
One of the best albums of 2000!
author: Doctor DementoEric "Red" Schwartz, who has an album that's a teeny bit more political, has some funny crowd-pleasers in it, like "Stoned People" --[singing] "These are things that stoned people do"--and one that imagines the Peanuts characters as grownups, called "Charliesomething." That's real fine. His album is called Pleading The First.
