A new release by from featured singer Jeff Schroeder, this joins his first release, Explore New Worlds, as a CD/DVD to enjoy listening to and learning at the same time.
In Songs of Writing, Jeff works in partnership with Nicole Peterson. They are both teachers at Ridgeview Elementary in Sparta, Michigan. “In an effort to discuss and share with students what makes ‘Good Writing’ turn into ‘Great Writing’ we spent time on instruction with the 6 +1 Traits of Writing." As a literacy coach, Nicole wrote many lessons that included kinesthetic movement and song. These lessons were used to capture the bodies and minds of the students at they continued to learn practices that would improve their writing. With the help and creative musical talent of colleague and second grade teacher Jeff Schroeder, the songs have transformed from crude sketches into magical music that can be enjoyed by all. Children of all ages will find as they listen to the CD, or watch the DVD, that they are tapping their toes, wiggling their bodies, joining in with the hand motions, and singing out loud. Please watch, listen, learn, and enjoy!”
This project has three unique features. First, there is the CD that includes the 11 songs for learning and then each of the songs is repeated with only the background music, allowing for every child to be their very own Karaoke star! Secondly, there is included an instructional DVD. This allows for children to watch and learn the lyrics and kinesthetic movements to help them remember the songs. The DVD is colorful and engaging for children of all ages. Finally, by accessing an on-line resource, you are able to download the lyrics to the songs and lessons plans for ideas of how the songs can be used in classrooms and with children.
This project was a great endeavor; we hope you enjoy it as much as we do. We are so thankful to Bill Jourdan and ADA-BOY Productions for the graphic designs; Rob Genter from Jaguar Music for CD production; David Fix, Tyler Bedgood and ICONIC PRODUCTIONS.tv for producing the DVD; and to Sparta Area Schools for their support. To all a BIG thank you!

Songs of Writing
author: Kris RussThis CD AND DVD has made an amazing difference in my 2nd Grade classroom. We teach the parts of speech, NOT simply to memorize, but so that we can easily use these terms to help students revise their stories. The DVD does a great job of helping students memorize parts of speech and WHY they're important to the sentence and their story. Once they know the parts of speech, you get SO much more from the students by being able to say, "Oh, what would be a good ADJECTIVE for that NOUN?" Before I knew it, the students went from "The bird flew." to "The enormous eagle swooped down quickly to protect her babies." And yes, this can come from ANY second grader. It's incredible! Also, there's a GREAT "Stoplight Editing" song! Are you constantly reminding your children..."Capital", "End mark", "Does that sentence make sense"; "Did you circle words that didn't look right"? Stoplight Editing gives a color for 4 very important things sentences need and the colors can be used by students to edit mistakes in their own writing. Every song is fun to sing/move to! We're already using all the parts of speech in the 7th week of school...and they BEGGED me to let them write just ONE MORE sentence! You will NOT be disappointed! *Good for elementary grades 1-3/4 Check out the "Explore New Worlds" CD, also featuring Jeff Schroeder. This CD has been out for awhile, so check those reviews-it's a "must-have", too!
Songs of Writing
author: Diann LambertI have both Songs of writing and Explore New Worlds. Both are very beneficial to the classroom. With Songs of Writing, each time you introduce a part of speech , there is a video and song to go with it. Pretty soon the kids are singing and doing the motions during the day. It helps them remember the parts of speech in a very fun way. I would highly recommend this for teachers from grade 1-4. I teach 2nd grade and it is very appropriate for this age. Happy teaching and singing!
