Album Notes

Sara Hickman wants parents and kids to know that being creative is a family life long adventure. She has created two in a series of musical and storytelling cds geared towards helping people have FUN in making, listening and reacting with music. At 7, Sara started playing music and won first place in her school's talent show with an original song. She has gone on to create seven albums on major and indie labels, traveled the world performing solo and with such varied artists as Billy Bragg, Michelle Shocked, John Prine, Bjork, Nanci Griffith, Dan Fogelberg, and played on the Tonight Show (twice), and VH-1 (in videos and hosting shows.) She has played everywhere from Carnegie Hall to elementary schools. She's won a bunch of awards (including the Parent's Choice Award, several Dr. Toy awards, and NAPPA awards), visited children in Romania to deliver toys, clothing and needed supplies, and is currently going around the country on behalf of Half Price Books, singing to children in hospitals and giving away cds/books to those in need. She loves to make music and art with her two children, and likes it when other people are inspired to do the same with their kids. It makes for a better world, don't you think? Sara thanks you for taking the time to read this short bio. For more info, visit her website (www.sarahickman.com).

A Storytime Staple
author: Tamara Munger
With the exception of Someone and Remember Your Name and Address (both beautifully done, esp. Someone) this is a wonderfully fun and, yes, silly collection of music. Our kids' favorite include Weenie Man, I Like My Boots, Duke of York, Hole in the Bottom of the Sea (Yowza!), Three Little Monkeys and Up in a Tree A Kookaburra Sat--how could you not like a song in which you get to sing bumzle bazzle bumzle bazzle bee??

excellent modern folk style
author: abigail
The songs are really catchy and I find myself and my daugther singing these songs all the time. The musical style is varied and interetsing, Sara has a beautiful smooth voice and the instrumentation is engaging. My only regret is the lack of meaningfullness of these songs- they're all pretty silly. But they are quite fun- enjoy!

You are missing out if you don't know "Weenie Man"
author: citizengeek
"More is always better," this is my dear Kathryn's ("Queen of the Gilded Lily") motto. I don't always agree with her on this, but in the case of Sara Hickman it appears to be quite accurate. Toddler is a faster album than Newborn, but equally joyful. It shows the same diversity of songs aand styles and adds new elements of spoken word stories. We started singing "Weenie Man" to calm a minor meltdown in a restaurant and ended up making up a special geek family version of the song. In the liner notes for this series, Sara Hickman writes that she would like families to have the confidence to improvise fun songs with their kids, and I think her music inspires us. Classics like "Hole at the Bottom of the Sea," "Bill Groggin's Goat," and "Frere Jacques" are complimented by Ike Jones' "Bunnies" and "I Got You Babe." Fun all around and NOT just for toddlers.

My almost 2-year-old son and I love this CD! He is even starting to sing along to some of the songs. If you like unique and creative kids' music, then this one's for you.
