Sarah Ellen Hughes was born in 1983 in Hitchin, Hertfordshire, England.

Sarah’s musical education has been for the piano, flute and singing. She has achieved high ranking awards and distinctions for these.

Sarah has helped others to perform through her activities as a singing, flute, piano and keyboard teacher, and she is also a vocal coach for the National Youth Jazz Orchestra (NYJO).

Sarah has played the flute in various bands and orchestras, including the NYJO. She has also conducted.

Sarah's numerous singing performances to date include: With the BBC Big Band as a guest; with the NYJO (now a principal singer) at the Labour Party Conference, Ronnie Scott's Jazz Club, Wavendon (also with Sir John Dankworth), and Admiralty House in Whitehall; and with the RAF Big Band Shades of Blue Orchestra as a guest.

Sarah has been recorded singing with the NYJO, and has also recorded vocal tracks for film and television (ITV) with the Daniel Pemberton Television Orchestra.

Sarah's musical influences include: Ella Fitzgerald, Sarah Vaughan, Shirley Horn, Nancy Wilson, Kurt Elling, Claire Martin, Miles Davis and Clifford Brown.
