notes
SAQ is one of those bands that catches your attention from the first minute that you listen to them. Underground metal is saturated with bands that fit nicely into their genres, with endless amounts of "brutal death metal", "grindcore", or "Swedish style black metal". If I had to try to put SAQ into a genre, I guess it would be metalcore, with clear influences of hardcore metal, combined with old school guitar shredding, elements of thrash, all with some great brutal vocals.
SAQ's debut release "Foul", on Hook n Mouth Records, is one of the most intriguing metal CDs in some time. The guitar work is simply awesome, reminiscent of early Testament, however, their overall sound more closely resembles Sepultura. Also, making SAQ more interesting, is their light-hearted approach to metal, featuring many songs with perverse lyrics, and comical sampling. But make no mistake, this CD is a head-banging, guitar shredding beast. SAQ's "Foul" is now available at www.hooknmouth.com .
