notes
Santa Fe & the Fat City Horns is a relatively new band on the "Scene". The band was formed by band leader Jerry Lopez and his close friends David Richardson, Eddie Garcia, his brother Lenny Lopez, Greg Neer, and Rochon Westmoreland. This was the nucleus of the band, and together they dreamed up the idea of the "perfect band", and the "perfect gig". It went something like this: Lets surround ourselves with people we love and respect, that are amazing musicians. Then lets write, and arrange specifically for that group. We'll take "covers" of tunes that we love, and make them our own. We'll make the band as big as we need to in order to play these arrangements "live" on a stage in front of people. And last but not least, do it without restrictions of any kind. Without concern for what it would cost, what we would make, what entertainment directors, record executives, agents, producers, other musicians, or even the audience would think. We would do this selfishly so that we could relive what it felt like when we were kids and found the magic that great music had on our lives. To get the "healing" that making great music with people we love and respect could bring. Somehow people heard about what we were doing and we found that there were others out there that are unserved musically in todays "music market". This is a project of pure passion and respect for the music that heals us first of all, and secondly to bring some healing to others that love the same music we do!

An inspiring and humbling experience
author: BobbyGBeing around this band is the most incredible thing I have ever experienced. You never tire of their music, largely because, beyond their obvious individual and aggregate chops, they bring an exuberant passion and honesty (and humility) to the stage that leaves everyone exhausted in stunned exhilaration. The 2007 live CD was recorded and mixed as well as any studio CD. The energy just roars out at you. The original songs are brilliant, the arrangements are jaw-dropping. It's the toughest book in a town of the toughest books on the planet. I keep a blog ongoing of this incredible group of people I am now blessed to call friends. Stop by at SantaFeAndTheFatCityHorns.blogspot.com for the latest news (and check in regularly at Andy Ebon's great music site). And, get copies of the CDs if you don't already have them. They will thump your world.
Live recordings don't get better than this
author: Andy Ebon, CEO of SoulWhen I moved to Las Vegas, Tower of Power’s leader, Emilio Castillo instructed me that “if Jerry Lopez’s band, Santa Fe was performing, anywhere, I should cancel my plans and go see them.” Emilio typically throws out praise like tossing manhole covers, so, shall we say, I paid attention. Santa Fe has been a Las Vegas presence, to varying degrees for about three decades. Today, they are THE band to see and hear, Monday nights at the Palms Hotel and Casino. This CD absolutely captures their live performance and range of music styles from Soul to Pop to Latin to Blues. This band is a 14-piece powerhouse that includes a 6-piece horn section. Living in Las Vegas, I get to see the band almost every Monday night. Those that live elsewhere have to own this CD, without question. Andy Ebon CEO of Soul SoulMusicNews.com
