where is the mystic sea? although sangiolo lives near long island sound where giggly girls play, it’s on the arctic ice where polar bears fish for food, on the rocky shore where rock penguins hang out with their family and friends, on the sandy shore where sea turtles lay their eggs, at the “quarium where “little fishes make googley-eyes and stairium,” and it’s right inside your bathtub blowing bubbles and singings songs about saving sharks!

this recording mixes mostly originals with a few well-chosen covers. sangiolo penned save the sharks! with her daughter’s third grade class. she takes a dive into the spoken word world with it’s too hot! the new england aquarium and mystic aquarium inspired her to write rock penguin hop and no dolphins here. popular sing-a-longs from her live shows down by the ocean and going over the sea will get everyone singing and moving.

joined by a ‘school’ of fine musicians playing acoustic guitar, electric guitar, dobro, mandolin, accordion, piano, harmonica, tin whistle and percussion, sangiolo’s folksy sound is infused with swinging energy and a rock-hop groove!

    Maria Sangiolo's happy-go-lucky brand of folk-rock is put to good use on this musical paen to marine life, both real (dolphins, sharks, penguins) and fantastical (mermaids). Sprinkling mandolins, dobros, tin whistles, and toy pianos among the standard guitar and drums, she invokes a fun-filled undersea world that will resonate well with little ones looking to sing along. And while she's got their attention, she manages to throw a little global warming awareness into the mix with "It's Too Hot!" COOKIE Magazine, 2007 Sangiolo has a loyal following in the Northeast from her four adult releases and with this, her third children's CD, she is gaining even more national attention. She has a sweet, strong voice, but it's really her fanciful lyrics that caught my attention. From 'Save the Sharks' to 'No Dolphins Here,' Sangiolo makes it clear that these are not rehashed nursery rhymes, but the imaginative and thoughtful words of a singer with a message, that of ocean conservation.
