notes
Hello fans of surf rock, instrumentals, guitaristic soundtrack and cinema sounds;
As I sit here and write this the snow is falling here in Colorado as it is prone to do in the Winter. It's the perfect time for exiled relocated beach bums to crank up the surfin' tunes....those golden notes of massively reverbed guitars and pounding drums that fill our hearts with joy and recalling the beauty of the sun and sea and sand.
Sandy and the SurfSonics began as a hodad tadpole heard his first guitar instrumental on the radio many red sunsets ago and his mind wandered to the sandy shore of oceanic glory........ feel that spray .......taste that salty bite of the ocean......a-hhhhhhhhh........
Then a few years later, the light bulb came on over his expanding consciousness containing orb and that hodad decided he wanted to play those guitars and make that joyous noise of watery crashing beauty and power. So it was done and Sandy learned to play and write melodies and found a few others who also dreamed of warm, sandy playgrounds when the chilling snow flakes of Winter fell.
Finally one summers eve at a party an Angel heard Sandy playing 'Sueña California' all by himself and she said, '....you should record that!!" The Angel's name is Barb Sickler. Thank you Barb!! With that towering vote of confidence the endeavor was initiated............
Vintage Fender amps, clean, cool Jags and Starfires and Teles with Dano baritone guitar counterpoint and throbbing drums tying it all together produced the dreams of wave riding, sand-between-your-toes and golden, fiery sunsets; which we call "Oceanica" (pronounced: oh-she-Ann-ick-ah).
Sandy and the SurfSonics thank you for listening and bid you a fair "Aloha"

Oceanica
author: John KoontzThis little instrumental CD - about an EP in length - comes to you from Sandy & the SurfSonics, a new Denver area group, who describe themselves as exiled and relocated beach bums. The SurfSonics is a private side project for the members. The CD is a collection of five melodic ballads in traditional instrumental style. The hallmark of the band is multiple and alternating lead lines in different registers. The use of a baritone guitar gives it a dark, interesting texture. It's a great first release that leaves me looking forward with anticipation to the follow up reportedly in the works. The instrumental cover of the Daytonas' G.T.O. reflects a lifelong love affair with the song, according to Sandy. The band's G.T.O. has perhaps a bit more of a relaxed, hypnotic feel than Ronny & the Daytonas' original, but is otherwise very evocative of it. Sandy gives us a minor key version somehow very evocative of the Daytonas' original, though he tells me that was actually in a major key. Apart from G.T.O., this CD has rather a Latin feel to it. You can preview the CD at the group's MySpace site.
Surf's Up!!
author: Rod W. DaveyWhat a cool cdr. If you're into surf instro this is a must for your collection. A little on the short side with only five songs, but these songs will get you hooked on Sandy & The SurfSonics. My favourite song is "Oceanica", but they're all cool. When listening all you'll be thinking about is the summer, the beach, cruising and surfin'. Can't wait for the next album.
The Radical Rider
author: Larry RodgersWhen I listen to this tune I go back to the 60's and feel the magic all over again. The entire piece is put together in such a way that you will feel every note for the first time.
Bring Your Towel
author: A.d.BrownWhat an exceptional piece of craftsmanship that embodies the very essence of this genre. All of the tracks on Oceanica tell a different story and lead the listener on a journey to the edges of the sea.
oceanica
author: MarkA great recording! Listening to this music I've been transported to the beach and feel the warm breeze and ocean spray on my face . Keep up the good work Sandy. The guitar work is energizing and I love the drivetrain beat beneath it. It's snowing outside tonite and now I'm thinking about booking a flight to the beachside. see you at the beach!
Memories are made of this
author: Rod GuinnTakes me back to an innocent time ... Station wagons with faux-wood sides ... sun forever, and naturally bleached hair ... great afternoon drivin' music
check it out!
author: NoelIf you want authentic surf rock with flawless execution, check it out! This stuff really shines. Sandy and the SurfSonics breathes new life into a style of music most people have not heard very much recently. You will be surprised when your foot starts tapping and you catch yourself bobbing you head.
