notes
For Sandy Lusco, writing, singing, guitar playing, performing and ministering to others through the gift of music is a life endeavor. It all began at the age of thirteen. By the age of sixteen it became her profession and before she reached twenty years old, it became a calling from the Lord. Whether she is on a big stage or over the radio, at nursing and retirement homes, hospitals, churches, homeless shelters, banquet halls, fairs, festivals, backyards, etc… Sandy views EVERY performance and EVERY recording she makes as a blessed God given opportunity to touch people with His love that flows from her music. Besides singing her own compositions, Sandy is able to perform an amazing repertoire of music for audiences of ALL ages. Music spanning from the 1600’s to the present, including traditional and contemporary gospel, hymns and worship music, traditional country, modern country, bluegrass, oldies, pop, folk and even wartime and patriotic songs. Her rendition of Disney favorites, TV and movie theme songs, silly action and nursery rhyme songs mesmerize youthful audiences.
As a writer, Sandy has written dozens of children’s songs and well over 100 gospel, country and pop songs. At fourteen, she made her first demo recording of her original music. At seventeen, she recorded her first record of two original country tunes with Jamboree U.S.A. staff band “The New Generation Express,” under the JAM label. Through a contest known as “Star Quest”, Sandy became the youngest regular member of WWVA’s Wheeling Jamboree U.S.A. show in 1978. There she opened shows for such artists Alabama, Hank Williams Jr., Alan Jackson, Tammy Wynette, Ronnie Milsap, Porter Wagoner, Donna Fargo, Johnny Paycheck, Bill Anderson and Boxcar Willie.
Since then, Sandy has recorded two cassettes, one of 22 original children’s songs. Her first CD “Where Are You?” is composed of 15 contemporary Christian songs. Her second CD of original works, “Love Forever Lingers On” is primarily inspirational country. There is one gospel tune and a few with a pop/rock flavor. As a tribute to her mother, who Sandy calls “her greatest mentor”, is a bonus track of an early 1960’s recording of her mother singing her own original country tune.
In 2005, Sandy married Ron Lusco, who is also an accomplished musician with a lengthy back-
ground in recording and performing. Now they perform and record together. She has three sons, Jered, Jordan and Calvin Reeves. Jered is a writer, drummer and guitarist. Calvin also plays guitar. She has no regrets for the career sacrifices she had to make to raise her three precious sons and she considers herself blessed beyond measure to have Ron as a partner in both life and in these wonderful music endeavors.
