notes
(Note: see my new CD "Particle" also at CDBaby) Jim Sande is a music writer, and musician living in upstate New York. His new CD "Prim" is a solo work. All music was written, performed, recorded, and produced by Jim. The CD has 22 tracks and lasts 60 minutes. 10 tracks are songs with vocals using orchestral synth sounds, percussion, guitar, and some samples. The songs are very accessible and catchy, some are tender and delicate, others are more driving and beat based. The 12 instrumental songs range from electric chamber music to beat based to ambient and crossing these lines.
I wanted to make the music accessible and yet unique. I am influenced by new music composers like Glass and Adams also by singers like Waits and Monk. I like good pop music, Soul Coughing was a favorite, and I also like pleasing music with lush melding harmonies, direct melodies, straight ahead rhythmns, overlapping improvisation, and some minimalism.
I spent a good deal of time in my earlier music career years working in rock bands, playing classical guitar (in which I did graduate work in college), and also working in jazz ensembles. I love the music of Ornette Coleman and all free type players. I also love ethnic music from Islamic countries and the music of India and Tibet. I like music that is more like a field to be in than a rocket to watch blast off. I am influenced by the books that I read and many of my ideas come from those sources. In particular, I read Buddhist text, Jung, good literature, and excellent erotica. my best to you Jim
