notes
Michelle Samuels began working in clubs and lounges doing extensive work as a jazz duo with New York¹s top guitarists including Gene Bertoncini, Paul Meyers, Howard Alden, Roni Ben Hur and Joe Cohn. This, she says, is where she began to develop her personal style.
Michelle¹s debut CD "Across A Crowded Room" features musicians Steve La Spina, Rich De Rosa, Paul Meyers and Adam Asarnow. Michelle conceived of original arrangements of "Some Enchanted Evening," "The Sweetest Sounds," "It Ain't Necessarily So" and "Hum Drum Blues" and other standards featured on the CD.
In her early teens Michelle began to study voice with the accomplished soprano Marni Nixon. Several years later, as a freshman in college at NYU Michelle discovered her love for jazz while enrolled in the NYU Jazz Vocal Workshop where she studied with veteran jazz composer, producer, performer Anne Phillips. Michelle has remained a student of Phillips and the two have worked closely to develop a vibrant repertoire.
