notes

This is the first North American release from the North Texas based Sampson-Gamma Electric Company. Taking influences from the experimental side of the Punk/Alternative genre, combined with Electronica, NuJazz and Instrumental R&B overtones, one might think of this as a new age album upon first listen. However, it is certainly not its intent. The Sampson-Gamma Electric Company has crafted an album that is not only relaxing but includes nice steady grooves such as the first single "Cold Blue", along with some Punk Jazz avant-garde explorations. There are two (2) longform pieces on the album, "Ice Water" which uses a running water sample along with a low register bass line as the pulse of the tune and "Wind Chill, Cold Air", which combines layers of the above-mentioned styles. Upon hearing the recording, a friend of the group coined it "THE ULTIMATE CHILL PILL!". All tracks were written by drummer, Woodrow Johnson II who also produced the album. According to Johnson, the goal for the album was to capture the overall feel of a 70's ECM recording with a twisted commercial bent, while keeping the texture of each song in a more up-to-date format.

Quite oke, this album. I Think SCEC listen very well to Stefan Betke whom I consider a master in this genre.
