notes
Sam’s original songs are grounded in the country-blues and folk traditions: good times and hard times, and all else we may encounter as we navigate through the time that we have here. As the singer and rhythm guitarist for the four-piece acoustic string band Tanglewood, he has shared the stage with artists such as Larry Keel and Natural Bridge, The Avett Brothers, and The Hackensaw Boys.
Recently Sam has compiled eleven of his own songs in the form of a self-produced CD on which he sings and plays guitar, harmonica, mandolin, and banjo. The effort led him to the finals of the 2008 WV Blues Society contest where he placed first in the solo/duo category and to the regional finals of the 2007 Mountain Stage New Song contest. His recordings and live performances have helped him form a loyal fan base.
He is planning on releasing another full-length CD of original music featuring his electric band in early 2009. Stay tuned.

Brilliant!
author: John R. PV Bch, FLSam Lamont shows us individual style and charisma in his modern blue grass/country mix. His linguistics and depth are so brilliantly unique and authentic, it makes you wonder why you haven't heard of him more in the mainstream. Lamont moves seamlessly from one song to the next with no apologies for lack of acoustical support. He doesn't need any. Great music for any time of day or night. A MUST for any remote blue grass/country admirer. Simply Brilliant!

If Ray LaMontagne, Loudon Wainwright III, M. Ward, and Keb Mo were passing the guitar in a songwriter-in-the-round session on your back porch it would sound something like Sam Lamont’s eponymous album. It is a simple, honest mixture of folk blues, adult pop, and country rock with soulfully gruff vocals and sepia-toned harmonies. This multi-instrumentalist has shared the stage with many famed Americana and Mountain acts and is quickly making a name for himself along the way.
