notes

Permanent Waver by Sam is "a remarkably assured debut, as [Sam] bolsters her coolly sultry pipes with warm arrangements and some strong, hooky songwriting. There's a theme running through many of the tunes here; "Permission," "Disturb the Universe" (a "collaboration" with T.S. Eliot) and the brilliant "Motorcycle" (which twists a seeming deathwish into something more positive) argue that life is to be lived to its fullest, a message not broadcast enough these days."

- Michael Toland, High Bias Magazine (May 2005)

Born in Manhattan, Sam is a New Yorker who is currently living in California. A perennial collector of tales and a tireless seeker of adventures, Sam moved to California after college in pursuit of something different. With a background as an independent audio engineer/producer, Sam began honing her songwriting chops, and in 2001 she was hand-picked by Restless Records recording artist Lori Carson to be one of 10 songwriters in an exclusive songwriter's workshop in New York. (www.songsatthepoint.com) When it came time to record her debut album, Permanent Waver, Sam enlisted the help of friends (and musical BADASSES) Chuck Prophet, Dave LeBolt, Jason Borger, and JJ Wiesler. Sam and JJ recorded and produced Permanent Waver and released the record through GUSH records in March of 2005. With four of the tracks from those sessions already placed in feature films, Permanent Waver is sure to make waves.
