notes

SOMETHING was fueled by a lot of pain, as is usually the case in Sam Crawford's songwriting.

The album begins with an unaccompanied voice, admonishing someone who has obviously overstepped their boundaries in Crawford's life. "It's time for something new for you," he sings. This short intro song is followed by the eerie and heavily electronic "One of Those Lives," a tune whose theme is all that it implies.

In spite of the dark themes in SOMETHING, glimmers of hope shine here and there in this collection of new music - Crawford's first album of original songs in a year.

"Insert Words Here" is an endearing tribute to someone whom Crawford calls his "second mother." "Something's There" is what Crawford calls his own "personal wake-up call" for those days when darkness abounds.

The album's closer, "Stormy Twilight," is actually a poem recitation set to an otherworldly, ethereal symphony. Even in its darkness, the track gives the listener an idea that "(going) home again" is actually a real possibility.
