notes
Sambosseros came together in Palo Alto, California, a small, international ensemble united by a common dream: to pursue, to grok, the uniquely magical, sensually syncopated music of Brazil. Around day jobs and usually after dark, they improvised on the concept of
SAMba
BOSSa
bolEROS
(and Jazz, of course)
In the years since, the group has shared their interpretations of Brazilian classics with Bay Area audiences. The music has become their own, but always retaining a deep respect for the intentions of the composers. If you are an avid listener of Brazilian recordings, you may recognize some musical phrases and quotations from the masters. Sambosseros intended these as sincere homage.
Sambosseros are Bebel Delgado (vocals), Pablo Riviere (guitar), Jim Shearer (upright bass), Bill Cawthorne (trumpet and kuhlohorn), and Kirk Abe (drums.)
Gabiroba is the first album released by this group. Playing songs from the past half century, Sambosseros make the music come alive with a unified and contemporary sound. Featuring the sweet and delicate voice of Brazilian singer Bebel Delgado, this music is relaxing yet subtly complex. There are also some original instrumental compositions by Sambosseros, pleasantly departing from the traditional styles, which will keep your attention throughout the whole album.
