notes
Saltlick is an original indie-rock band with a
country twang from Eugene, Oregon. The band formed
in 2000 by Steve Taddei following the demise of his
seminal country/rock outfit, Hillbilly Holocaust. The
band cut their teeth on the Eugene club scene
culminating in a memorable performance on the main
stage of the Eugene Celebration in 2002. In 2003 the
band took a deserved hiatus. They reformed in 2004
with the current line-up in of Steve Taddei (lead
vox/guitar), Chris Ross (lead guitar/pedal steel), Ryan
Tocchini (keys/vox), Jerry Abelin (bass/vox), and Scott
Headrick (drums/vox). Taddei's compelling songwriting
and unique voice are distinctive, backed up by three
part harmonies creating a sound reminiscent of Bob
Dylan and The Band with echoes of the 1980's Athens,
GA scene. The jangly telecaster, creative key-work,
and processed pedal steel sounds are grounded by the
deep pockets a of a criminally able rhythm section.
Saltlick patches it's influences of garage rock and
traditional country into the quiltwork of America's
cultural heritage while providing their audiences
with first quality entertainment.

Excellent.
author: John McNulty ( http://www.skaterman.com )Great songwriting smothered in twangy goodness. Contains plentiful portions of both foot-tappers and foot-stompers. Call it alt-country or "Pavement meets Steve Earle"...just don't call me late for dinner when there's Saltlick on the menu. Happened on this CD by accident and glad I did.
Alt-Country at it's best...
author: CHINASKIThis is alt-country at it's best. Saltlick has delivered a well-crafted and genuine album. "A Face Only A Mother Could Love" is full of smooth & subtle guitar work and bittersweet songs that will serve you well on a lonely night drive.

Like free-falling through cowboy dreams as rural landscapes whiz by, Saltlick brings the sonic blessings of guitar pop music to the long tradition and sought after twang and jangle of country music. Alt country fans, especially those who seek out Son Volt, Wilco and Uncle Tupelo, will find big juicy tracks on this 13-song disc, pulling in colors and stylistic brushstrokes from americana and roots rock. Singing out from Eugene, Oregon, these guys offer up one heckuva hayride full of good times.
