Something special
author: Graham UKCame to this CD late but now captivated - great voice, musicianship and production. Agree - difficult to classify but something special. Highly recommended.
real nice
author: chipReal nice music. one of the best cd's i've heard in a long time
I like music
author: kyleI really think that this was a great addition to my cd collection which was lacking female representation which is hard to find these days in terms of a woman who is just great at making music not needing to make it a statement of anything other than herself
Distinctive voice on standout CD
author: Paul HelfrichSally Semrad's Left of Me offers introspective folk pop rock - certainly reminiscent of Sarah MacLachlan's best early work, without the tendency to histrionics. Sally's smoky, world-weary voice draws you in; the arrangements offer just the right amount of support. This one's a keeper.
songs from the heart
author: Tucker LivingstonThese songs come straight from the heart, you can tell that after even the first few moments. enjoy!
Confessions of a non-believer...
author: SuspectI'll admit, I was a bit skeptical about getting this CD. I liked the sample tracks, but I figured that if Sally was any good she'd already be signed to some major label, right? Wrong. This CD is probably too genre-busting for their tastes. I can't put my finger on what genre this CD would be filed under, but it's definitely off the beaten path! It's experimental, it's got imagination and it's got a PULSE! Sally's won herself a new fan. If you like the sample tracks then GET THIS CD! I'm betting that you won't regret it.
Come back home to Texas
author: MichaelSally, Come back to Texas so we can hear these songs LIVE. Great CD on many levels. Best of luck and wishes on number two.
definitely a great album
sally semrad is a standout artist. it's amazing she's not already more well known. i plan to make an effort to see her next time she plays in l.a. her style most reminds me of a cross between emmylou harris' "wrecking ball" album, although the lyrics aren't quite as good as that, and shea seger's "may street project". the only weakness is that 14 songs is entirely too many for one album unless it's a 'best of' and even then it's pushing it. other than that, i'll be excited to hear what she offers up next, and if the lyrics continue to improve, she'll only go higher on my list.
lovely voice, lovely rhythm
author: Karen Gibson Roci agree that she shouldn't be a secret
Sally is who Sheryl Crow wishes she could be
author: Paulette M.I happened upon Sally Semrad after hearing the NPR review. Couldn't find it in my local indie store but HAD to have it so I found it online about a year ago now. Sally S. is the best kept musical secret and she shouldn't be! Wonderful, insightful, rich lyrics and inspired musicianship that reverberates each and every time I play the CD. Sally, please: Give us more! Any tour news?
Sally has a passionate fire in her music...Burn me again Sally!!!
author: Jerry AmalfitanoThis CD grows on you. I love the innocence of the lyrics and the infectious sound of the music. This is a refreshing change from the sound-a-likes out there. I can't wait for the next one. Thankx Sally.
Sally Semrad
author: Lauren GSally is an amazing artist. It was by chance that I found out about her and the minute I heard her sing, I fell in love with her voice and her music. Each song on her CD is wonderful. There hasn't been a day that I haven't listened to her CD. She has an beautiful voice and she is sure to go far in the music industry.
Sally Semrad kicks ass
author: Heather YoungThis instantly became one of my very favorite CD's, and I still haven't been able to stop listening to it daily. Every single song is wonderful, as well as distinctive, a rare event for a CD. Her smooth-gravel voice, her lyrics, instrumentation, and melodies work together to create a very emotional, healing experience. I definitely feel the dusty Texas breeze caressing the songs, which brings the peace of home to me (Arizona) here in New York City. The world needs to know about Sally...when is she going on tour?
A welcome addition to my favorite singer-song writers like ......
author: J DSally's songs on Left of Me each touched me, like each one related to some time or experience in my own life. I loved it right off the bat. I think that's a mark of a real artist, music that brings meaning and beauty. I liked every song. Her voice is a pleasure and her style is original and comtemporary. A welcome addition to my favorite singer-song writers like Sarah McLachlan, Alanis Morissette, Rosanne Cash, Patty Griffin and early Tori Amos.
Until the sun sets on Lincoln Blvd
author: April JohnsonSally's Left of Me CD leaves 'em eating Crow (Cheryl). Aside from the superior musicianship that infects the album like some rapidly spreading virus, the songwriting is heavy and the vocals nothing less than beauty. And then you get the Stanley Room only compilation on top of it? Talk about an embarassment of riches! (Disclaimer -- Dan Johnson is my husband)
