notes

Where would we be without the chance meeting? Were it not for a chance meeting, three very talented musicians would not have created a sound that has garnered so much attention in such a short time.

RyeHollow is lead vocalist Breanna Paletta, guitarist Kevin O'Loughlin, and bassist Chris Chard. They met through "Deep Roots", a project at Reynolds High School in Troutdale, OR, which pairs high-school lyricists with local musicians. Their own version of pop is blended with alt-country, blues and rock to make RyeHollow's unique and emotive, stripped down music.

In the past year, RyeHollow's single "Where I Come From" was added to rotation on Portland's KINK FM and got airplay on 27 other radio stations across the US. They were featured on KINK's 8th annual compilation CD, KINK LIVE 8, and opened for Tori Amos at the KINK LIVE 8 show. They headlined several summer festivals and opened for Blue Merle, Johnny A, Dave Mason, Ringside and Collective Soul.

RyeHollow is one of the featured artists in UMPQUA Bank’s discover Local Music program. The Pacific Northwest’s largest community bank launched the unique program connecting customers with the region’s top artists. RyeHollow is one of the first bands whose album will be sold in UMPQUA’s stores.

The highly anticipated, first full length album, "Hearts Like These" will be released in the spring of 2006. KINK added RyeHollow’s new single “Any Way You Say It” two months before the CD release. This makes them the first unsigned band to have 2 adds to the mogul radio station’s regular rotation.

“I must say that “Any Way You Say It” is a hit song; RyeHollow has hit one out of the park with this song!”
-Dennis Constantine, Program Director KINK FM

“RyeHollow digs deeper than the typical folky girl pop that bombards the airwaves these days. With lyrics that are insightful and revealing, its pop that has found a way to be eloquent and concise, elegant and organic.”
- Tamara Turner, Editor CD Baby

It's the kind of music that energizes, the kind of writing that inspires and the kind of band that could've only happen by a chance meeting.

I hear tons of harmony and many styles the likes of Nickel Creek. I loved this album and have told many about them. I'll look into adding more of their albums? to the collection. Can't wait until I know all the words so I can sing along!

  • comfy, inviting and worthy of the repeat button...

  • A pure, natural, yet full sound.

I am probably older than most of Rye Hollow's fans(grew up with Dylan, the Beatles and the Stones), but I loved the natural and real feeling of their CD. I found this CD quite by accident, but I'll be looking for more.

  • Wonderful! Ear Candy

I love it! Rootsie, soothing, fresh air! First track "where I come from" reminds a bit of Mindy Smith, (which is a good thing). Wish there were more songs on the cd though. Hope they make it!

  • Fresh, Intelligent, & Kickback Music

The whole CD was what I expected, and more. The cut,"Where I Come From," caught my interest, but the musical surprises included are wonderful and fresh, coming from the souls of great musicians. Thank you for your contribution and for sharing with us all, Rye Hollow!

  • Good job

Good job, thanks for keeping it simple. You have a relaxing easy listening sound that is refreshing. Not overdone with drums like so much pop music or oversang like alot of love song ballads. Keep up the good work.

  • The music of RyeHollow just makes me feel good.

Isn't that what art is all about, bringing each other to a better place? RyeHollow does that.

Balancing maturity with innocence, groundedness with girlish wonder and drawing from the lush atmospherics of the Sundays to the accessibility of Mindy Smith to the faintest lighthearted jangle of Nickel Creek, RyeHollow digs deeper than the typical folky girl pop that bombards the airwaves these days. With lyrics that are insightful and revealing while also maintaining the craft of poetry, this five-track gem nestles comfortably with fans of "girl and a guitar" pop. The self-titled album averages out with an impression of cultivated simplicity- that is to say, pop that has found a way to be eloquent and concise, elegant and organic without succumbing to over production and excessive "fat". A very promising debut album indeed.
