notes
Brooklyn born singer/song writer/musician Ruby Collins is one of NYC emerging undiscovered talents. With her 1st release of 'Sunshine' in 1999. It was an unmistakably honest, unpretentious and deeply affecting CD. Combining rich melody, warmly enveloping vocals natural instrumental textures and a simply stated yet profound message about the challenges of life.
Ruby Collins has drawn a legion of fans who find themselves not only entertained, but encouraged, warmed, and inspired by her music. Ruby began singing in church at an early age. At the the age of fifteen she became lead vocalist at her church choir moving the congregation with rousing inspirational gospel classics. She considered pursuing a career as a professional singer but instead joined the police department to help take care of her family financially when her mother was diagnosed with cancer.
Even while patrolling the streets of New York City her talent for music was evident to her colleagues.
Ruby was called upon to sing at a number of ceremonies and before notables such as President Bill Clinton, Mayor Rudy Giulliani and many others.
Her talents were highlighted on the 'Rosie O'Donnell Show;' a television special 'New Attitude' produced by the Lifetime Network; and on the NBC Network television program 'Showtime at the Apollo.' She has prominently been featured in print articles in Essence and Marie Claire magazines.
Ruby Collins independently produced her freshman CD entitled, 'SunShine' released in September 1999.
It was recognized by Billboard magazine as the first marker of this budding prolific singer/songwriter comparing her lyrical prose to that of an early Roberta Flack and Featured her on Oprah Winfrey's cable show 'Oxygen Media.'
Ruby Collins has since resigned from the Police Department to pursue her flourishing career as a professional singer/songwriter reaching the hearts and souls of people through her music and doing what she absolutely loves to do best.
