Finally a kids record parents will enjoy as much as their kids! "Turn it Up Mommy" features ten roots-rockin' songs for the whole family. The songs combine infectuous beats with humorous lyrics and positive educational themes.
The RTTs are also known as The Rhodes Tavern Troubadours, an award-winning rock and roll band from Washington, DC. Combined the members of the RTTs have recorded on 40 albums and have performed in over 40 states and 12 countries!
CD Baby has picked this as one of our top selling albums of December, 2003. Here's our review:
This CD absolutely made me do a double take, "This is for kids?!" That says a lot for the common denominator of kid's music, when it doesn't give itself away by either the quality or the instrumentation. There just isn't such thing as kid's music that's too sophisticated and "easy listening" for parents and The RTTs certainly drive that point home with, "Turn It Up, Mommy." This
wholesome, rootsy and americana-styled album charts the fine balance between an album that's fun, catchy, kid-friendly and yet classic, respectable and considerate of grown-ups. This is no less than kid's music with adult integrity.

THE RTTS "Turn It Up Mommy!" Route 11
Chances are kids who receive "Turn It Up Mommy!" from their parents will see right through the ruse and ask: Whose present is this, anyway?
That's because grown-ups will probably crank up "Turn It Up" far more often than their offspring -- especially adults fond of, say, NRBQ or the Traveling Wilburys or just about any variety of Chuck Berry-flavored or Telecaster-twangy roots rock. So what if one of singer-songwriter Jake Flack's catchy chants -- "Please don't play the Wiggles, Raffi or Barney, 'cause right now Mommy I need some rock 'n' roll" -- borders on brain-washing? Desperate times demand desperate measures.
As on the quartet's debut, the songs here are mostly smart and tuneful. But this time around, Flack has taken on the additional challenge of writing for kids and adults alike. In the process, he comes up with some funny stuff, such as the family portrait "Sherpa," which concerns the burdens every parent must shoulder:
"When we're going anywhere, daddy is always packing up the gear / even if we're just walking to the store / looks like we're leaving for a year. / Well, now, don't forget the stroller, don't forget the phone and what about the Teddy bear / Do you have the snacks packed and are they in the backpack and what about the extra underwear?" Flack also contributes "Big Train," a terrific baseball anthem dedicated to Hall of Fame pitcher Walter Johnson.
As for the band's sound, the group consistently emphasizes the fun in rock fundamentals, with guitarist Dave Chappell, bassist Mark Noone and drummer Jack O'Dell generating lots of color and momentum. The only downside is the disc's playing time -- a scant 27 minutes.

Great CD for the entire family
author: DawnThis is a great CD, my son and I have been listening to different music since before he came out of the womb. He is 14 months now, he doesn't quite understand the words but he loves the rhythm. It puts a smile on his face everytime and the lyrics crack me up! This has become a family favorite.
Love this CD!
author: Claire OggsMy husband and I were big 1000 dollar car fans in New Orleans, so we were a little sad to see Jake move to D.C. But we know now that he is continuing to make great music and impress us with his new bands. Our whole family loves the RTT's (kids age 31/2 and 1 sing along)! We tell all of our friends about it. It's so fun!
Great music to have stuck in your head!
author: LaraOur whole family loves this CD. With kids 3-12 that's not easy to find. What I really like is that when I find these songs playing in my head I enjoy them unlike other children's music that drives me crazy. It has classic broad base appeal like the Beatles & NRBQ.
Absolutely Entertaining for kids AND parents
author: Manda SimonIt stays in our car and as soon as we get in the kids (ages 6 and 4) say "Turn it up, Mommy". We hear them singing the words and bopping thier heads. It is AWESOME. We anxiously await the next kids rock n' roll CD from the RTTs!!
Great Fun for the Whole Family
author: LisaThis is a great CD for the whole family. Good tunes and fun lyrics. My five year old loves it, and my one year old bops along to the music. Even my husband likes it, and he does not like most "kids" music. (In the interest of full disclosure, I must say we know one of the band members.)
Wonderful record! Clever lyrics backed by awesome rockin' songs for kids AND a
author: Russ BroussardI LOVE this cd!
author: GingerThis CD is GREAT! My son is only 9 months old and I bought it for a Christmas present to him, but I couldn't resist, knowing that he wouldn't really understand Christmas this year anyway! I put it in my car the day I bought it and haven't taken it out since! I am sure that he enjoys it too, and will for years to come. I am definately giving it as gifts to other mom's that I know!
Fantastic. Great. Want more.
author: Elizabeth B. CarterThe CD is great. My 28 month old daughter, dances and laughes and can understand the words faster than me. She loves the first song.
Never too young or too old....I'm hooked
author: Les BakerMy 16 month old won't let me turn this CD off. It just keeps playing over and over again. He and I can't get enough of this CD.
A great birthday gift!
author: AliceThis is a wonderful CD for both kids and adults. In our family, daddy loves "Sherpa" (because he really is one), the 4 year old loves "Snack Time", the 2 year old loves "Learning my Letters", and mommy can't help but love "Thank you Mommy." Jake, Jack, Dave, and Mark have done a great job! We love it and it makes a great gift for kids' birthdays or for preschool teachers who need some new music in their classes!
Got our kids dancing and shaking their heads to the beat.
author: MargaretLove it! I bought four so that several of our local families can all know the music. It got our kids dancing and shaking their heads to the beat. If only it was longer! More songs, please!

Great for kids and adults too. A++++ CD - Great songwriting.
author: Robbie WhiteThe RTTs have produced a great CD. While Jake Flack wrote the songs from a child's point of view, the parents will enjoy the CD as much (or more) than their kids. All the songs have great hooks (including Mark Noone's "My New Hero). The production and singing are great, and all 4 guys are terrific muscians. A must-have CD.
GREAT!
author: Seth KibelMy 3-year old niece LOVES it and, believe it or not, she's a pretty tough critic!
Ain't Nothin' Better
author: Brian CorcoranWhenever I can, I head to see the RTT's at the Half-Moon BBQ in Silver Spring, Md. As great as they are in concert, it's especially cool how well their infectious sound and sense of humor translate into a great recording like this one. You don't need kids at all to love this LP - but it helps!
A huge relief to my adult ears and sensabilities
author: Catherine and CarterFun songs with excellent instrumentation make this album a joy to listen to. It's my son's favorite album. I challenge you to listen to "Snack Time" without getting up to dance...
Gotta have it! Mom will like it as much as the kids!!
author: Carol and JacksonWe've been telling all our friends about this great energetic CD that the kids love to dance to. The lyrics will crack the parents up and the kids love them too. Thanks for such a great alternative to the kiddie tapes such as Wiggles, Rafi and Barney!
Awesome!
author: MaureenYou know it's a great kids CD when you are driving down the road jammin' to the CD and you realize your kid is at home with Dad! I've played it for lots of kids, and they all dance and sing the first time they hear it!
Fabulous
author: MeganTurn it Up Mommy is winner-- good clean fun for all ages. As a Jake Flack worshiper since the Neptunes, this new RTTs album is real treat to be able to share with the youngest members of the family. Look forward to the next one.
Love it!
author: T G MagninoEvery time we play this CD it is a non stop dance party at our house! Fun for adults and kids alike. Looking forward to the next CD!
Music for kids...ages 2 to 92
author: Bob GoldsteinAs great as I thought their first record was, this snappy little disc eclipses it. Every song is a keeper and has a hook that'll keep it in your head for days. To call this a children's album is a bit of misnomer, as it certainly works well with this 43 year old. Anybody who is a kid at heart will love this disc. The only thing that kept this from being 5 stars was the fact that I wish it were longer. The Troubs rule!
