ABOUT ROBBIN THOMPSON
Robbin Thompson has a unique claim to history. He was one of the only performers to ever actually sing in front of Bruce Springsteen. That was in the early '70's when he was lead singer in an early Springsteen group called Steel Mill.
Thompson's career and noteworthiness, however, extend far beyond those roots. In the years since, he has released 8 albums, won THE AMERICAN SONG FESTIVAL twice, written songs with EAGLES bassist Timothy B.Schmit, and established himself as a gifted performer, songwriter, and studio vocalist.
THE VINYL YEARS includes songs from three of Thompson's previous lp's. ROBBIN THOMPSON, recorded in 1976, ROBBIN THOMPSON, STEVE BASSETT "TOGETHER", recorded in 1978, and BETTER LATE THAN NEVER, released in 1985.
ALL OF THOMPSON'S 1ST LP IS INCLUDED ALONG WITH THE ORIGINAL "SWEET VIRGINIA BREEZE", WHICH IS CONSIDERED BY SOME TO BE THE "UNOFFICIAL STATE SONG OF VIRGINIA"

the vinyl years
author: joe masonI had lost my vinyl of the first album and was not disappointed when I listened to this CD after so many years. The album was so tight, his singing was great and the songs are well-written. It was every bit as good as many other pop singer-songwriter albums of its time and still baffles me that Robbin didn't achieve the national popularity he deserved. But don't get it for its nostalgia value-it's a great album at any time. I also always like volume-this has 75-plus minutes...more than your money's worth.
The Vinyl Years
author: Susan GrossmanMy souls is soothed! It is so wonderful to hear this music again. So glad I found the website! I listen and I travel back to Richmond and that Sweet Virginia Breeze!
2 thumbs up!!
author: Linda Grubbwhat a wonderful CD.. Brings back all the memories of Coffee Pot and partying with the guys.. Robbin and the band can't be touched with this CD.. All my memories of this CD are wonderful! It is such a shame that we don't still have the band together.. Buy this Cd for your collection.. You won't go wrong!!
Outstanding!!
author: Barry EvansLike many folks here I discovered Robbin while in college. 1976 at Dodge City Community College to be exact. As a college radio station DJ I was playing Robbin quite a bit and his music just really struck a chord with me and I've been looking for a CD of that first album for 25 years.. It was worth the wait. This is one talented guy with fantastic story telling ability. It's easy to see him as a front man for Springsteen... and OUTSHINING him!!!
Great talent, great memories!
author: Greg BaleGreat talent, great memories! Lost the vinyl years ago and the cassettes are nearly worn down to bare mylar. It's a real treat to get these great songs back in pristine CD version. Thanks Robbin, thanks CD Baby!
Home Run
author: Bob Munson - Studley, VAWOW, I thought I'd never see these great songs on CD. Robbins first LP was always my favorite. He really hit a home run with that one. The Vinyl Years is a great CD for the collection. I do wish that I could have Together and Better Late Than Never, in their entireties. Robbin Thompson & Steve Bassett together...What fantasic Duet.
New Stuff for Me!
author: SherryHadn't heard allot of the music. Even BEFORE MY TIME :) Timeless!
A must have CD for anyone.
author: Jay JenkinsThe Vinyl Years is worth every penny. Just Robbin and Steve's version of Magnolia alone, is worth the price. Buy it, find a comfortable place, open a cold one and sit back and enjoy... increased volume is optional.
Buy this CD.
author: Nuka Møller Lund.Buy this CD, then sit down somewhere, relax and listen to Dream River and that's it...
Fantastic! Even my 30 yr. old daughter loves it!
author: SherryPopped the CD in (I had already listened to it for a full week) and my 34 year-old daughter loved it! We had to sit in the parking lot and finish the song before we went in the store. The CD drives me home everyday after work, the full 30 mile drive. Bring on more!
Takes me back to my ole' stompin toons in Richmond in the late '70s!
author: Romas LaskauskasThis CD is a fabulous compilation of Robbin's early work. It showcases his country rock style which he has continued to develop. We had wonderful times with Robbin, Steve..and Buzzy at The Tradewinds on Southside and at all the other concert venues. I miss y'alls version of "What Does it Take (To Win Your Love For Me)...best I ever heard!
Late 70's flashback
author: DenverI was so glad to find this CD. We used to listen to it in college but my cassette tape(which was taped from the LP)was totally worn out. Pleasantly surprised to hear some tunes I never knew about as a bonus.
Brings back memories, but still sounds fresh!
author: EddieLiving in Texas for the past 14 years, I recently took a vacation and went thru the Blue Ridge down to the Tidewater area where I grew up. I was thinking about "Sweet Virginia Breeze" and told my girlfriend how good the song was. Didn't get a chance to look for it there, so came across Robbin's website and thus CD Baby. I am very pleased with the CD and happy I've gotten to hear some of R.T.'s other music. "Highway 101" and "Take Me Away" have become instant favorites from this collection. Thank you Robbin for your artistry!
Blast From The Past
author: RobBought this CD for Sweet VA Breeze and Magnolia, which were a part of the soundtrack of my fraternity house days. Found some other very good songs here, esp. Boy From Boston and Dream On Melinda. Excellent compliation.

author: WingdujourSo well mastered, I forgot how fine these songs were from the lp's of my past. Still vibrant and alive after all these years. A credit to fine songwriting. Can he still be touring ?????
Great Music Great Memories
author: pbatemanCan't describe how great it was to hear Robbin's songs again without the scratches, hisses and hum of my worn out vinyl. They have survived some 20 years. His new work is as good as his old. Hope he continues to write and publish his work. Thanks for think of us old fans and putting this out for us.
Compilation of his unique brand of music, soulful lyrics, all hits, A+
author: Beth HallIf you like Robbin's music, this is a must. His vocals and soulful, meaningful lyrics are beyond compare! This is nostalgia at it's best! Crank it up!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I've been a fan since 1980 from Roanoke, C-ville, Staunton, Lexington, and Va. Beach. This Cd exudes MAJOR talent.
GREAT music :O) a DEFINITE listen to OVER AND OVER CD!!!
author: Ginny FordLoved ALL the tracks but in particular Sweet Virginia Breeze..What a fun fun tune.... I especially liked all the different themes in the songs. Not all Love songs, not all poor me songs...LOTS of great variety.. Already ordered and received my next Robbin Cd :O)
What a CD !!
author: JulienHow can I possibly explain this? the CD is great. The songs span on a ten-years period but still you can feel a really impressive unity in the work. Personnally, I thought that no song could beat "Boy from Boston", but, in fact, each time you'll hear this album, you will discover a new song, a new melody, another detail will strike you. The more you hear the CD, the more you'll like all the songs. Also, for all of you that never heard Robbin Thompson, I really recommend you to discover the artist through this album.
Excellent!
author: Robbin B ThompsonI'm very disappointed in the media for not giving his work more air time. I really like dthe way he put all the cuts from the '76 LP on it and mixed in a few others from later years that I never got exposed to. Great insightful, and Life observing work. I'll be back.
Great CD! Robbin just keeps them coming!
author: Nita ClaytonThis is a great CD. Reminds me of the good ole days. It has a great Springsteen song on it as well. I haven't heard this version of Sweet Virginia Breeze since I left Richmond more than 16 years ago.
