Roy Acuff was born 9/15/1903 in Maynardsville Tennessee.. He was known as the "KING" of country music. His band was known as The Smokey Mountain Boys. Roy formed Acuff Rose Publishing in 1942 with Fred Rose. He also formed the Hickory Record Lable in 1953, also with Fred Rose. Roy twice ran for governor of Tennessee. He won the Grammy's Lifetime Achievement Award in 1987. *Unfortunately, we lost Roy Acuff on 11/23/1992, due to congestive heart failure.
