notes
Inspired by the timeless wisdom of Persian poets Rumi, Hafez, and Sepehri and by the Persian roots of flamenco, 'Roya' features the magical sounds of Ms. Bahrami's Persian santur. The compilation includes Persian spiritual and classical music blended with Western elements and introduces a new genre, Persian-Flamenco, a fusion of Persian melodies and poetry with flamenco rhythms and harmonies.
Among the albums noteworthy pieces is 'The Beloved' which showcases Ms. Bahrami's hauntingly beautiful deep voice set to a blend of Persian melodies, flamenco harmonies, and the poetry of Rumi, the celebrated 13th century Persian Sufi poet. In 'Unveiled Soul' set to the poetry of the 14th century mystic poet, Hafez, she blends Persian spiritual music with contemporary Western elements. Conjuring up images of flamenco dancers, 'Message' is set to the contemporary poetry of Sepehri with the refrain: "I shall come to pour light into your veins."
Ms. Bahrami sings and plays all the instruments: Persian santur (hammered dulcimer), the great-grandparent of the piano; the Iranian daf and zarb (hand drums); and the keyboards for synthesized instruments. The album, which is a compilation of her original compositions, debuted on the Top-10 world charts of a number of radio stations in Canada and the U.S.

I am not an expert in music, but I must say I was truly moved by the music and songs on this CD. They show a unique and unsual combination of talent, passion, and spirtuality. I highly recommend the CD. I hope that in her next CD Roya will be more generous in sharing her beautiful voice with the audience!
Roya
author: Frank KlischMy favorite is "Message". To me, it has the greatest Persian/Flamenco fusion. I can close my eyes and see the Flamenco dancers. Another favorite is "The Beloved"; it is mellow and very soothing. All of the songs and mix of styles are great, and your introduction "On The Path" is awesome. You certainly are very talented...great to see you pursuing your roya with such beauty.
Roya Album
author: Pezhman AkbariThank you for inspiring our spirits with your talent. My favorite song was "Message" track #2. I believe the main reason is that it has been neatly integrated with other instruments + your beautiful voice + its rich meaning. I would call it a fusion style because I had never heard such a nice combination before. I have to also mention how much I appreciated when you translated the poem in track # 1. This is what exactly missing in most of our music CDs, especially for us who live here and want to share our music with others. I often have difficulties to translate them and I hope all our musician realize how much it would help our music to be heard by others who love to understand the meaning of our beautiful poems. I keep playing your CD all the time and it made me more serious to learn Santur. Thank you again for your contribution and I admire your work very much... Pejman
Roya
author: shirin Z TehraniI truly enjoyed listening to this CD. “Roya” has done a beautiful job blending the eastern and western instruments, and at the same time staying true to the rhythm, melodies and characteristics of the traditional Persian music. The music transports the listener to faraway lands. She is a gifted musician and I highly recommend this CD to anyone that loves Persian music.
