notes
"My songs come from the noise of the street. From conversations, from the unavoidable barrage of media that slams into me daily. I take these ingredients, add a melody and a handful of emotion, then shake and serve," says ROSS DACKO, NYC- based acoustic rock artist who just completed his third CD, MASTER AND THE MONKEY. "After the first taste, you know that you either have a song or should toss the whole batch - maybe keep a few of the bits for another tune." Sounds like a too-simple-to-be-true recipe for songwriting? Perhaps, but Ross knows what works for him at this point. He wrote his first song at the age of 5 and has been writing and performing ever since. His style is acoustic rock. "I've been writing on acoustic guitar for as long as I can remember. I'm still amazed how you can grab a guitar you've never played and just start writing based on how it sounds in your hands." Ross spends much time on his lyrics, and is quick to enforce re-writes of "as little as one word in a line of a song. I'd always rather give my listener something to chew on, instead of gunning for a common rhyme." Ross has been a showman for years at a variety of venues up and down the east coast. He performed at Don Henley's "Walk for Walden Woods" benefit and with David Garza at the Mercury Lounge. He has also performed solo at The Mercury Lounge, and at many other venues in NYC (The Knitting Factory, Kenny's Castaways, Googie's Upstairs at The Living Room) and Connecticut (Boats, Books & Brushes Festival, Stashes, Springfest, Octoberfest). Ross will perform at the NEW YORK SONGWRITERS CIRCLE July 2nd at THE BITTER END, NYC.
