Rose Laughlin

Rose Laughlin began seriously collecting songs and studying the guitar five years ago, inspired by an Irish balladeer's performance in Seattle. She began her study with traditional Irish music, a passion that brought her to Chicago in 2003.

Rose is always looking for a good song that she can make her own. Though her interest began with Irish, her repertoire has expanded to include traditional American songs from Appalachia and those penned by modern day singer/songwriters.

“Souvenir,” Rose Laughlin’s debut cd, is a collection of both traditional and contemporary Irish and American folk music. Rose captures the spirit of each song; from the mournful “I’m So Lonesome I Could Cry” to the reflective “Shades of Gloria.” Rose’s soulful interpretations along with producer Dennis Cahill’s beautiful musical arrangements make “Souvenir” an engaging and original compilation.

Accompanying Rose on “Souvenir” is renowned musician/producer Dennis Cahill (guitar, mandolin, bouzouki, bass), and a stellar lineup of musicians: June Shellene (piano), Kat Eggleston (vocal harmony), Jimmy Moore (low whistle), Liz Knowles (violins), and John Williams (accordion).
