A sense of sacred space begins wherever you happen to be. For many of the indigenous peoples of North America, that is the forest. This album seeks to honor the forest world and all the beings that live there. The music was directly inspired by sacred wooded places that I visit regularly, including Blackwater Refuge near Cambridge, Maryland; White Oak Canyon in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia; Brookside Gardens in Wheaton, Maryland; and our own backyard.

about Ron...
Ron Warren began a transforming journey with the Native American flute less about five years ago. This journey began simply and tentatively as a way to honor his father's ancestors. Inspired by the vision of artists such as R.C. Nakai, Coyote Oldman, Jeff Ball and Mark Holland, Ron soon began his own search for a music which honors the flute tradition but also welcomes this beautiful instrument into the 21st century. He has been guided by the flutes themselves and by spending time in special sacred places like Blackwater Refuge, White Oak Canyon and Brookside Gardens. The flute has become for him not only a primary means of artistic and self expression but a pathway to meditation and healing.
Ron has had the privilege of performing with Native American Music Award winning flutist Jeff Ball at Musical Echoes Native Flute gathering in Fort Walton Beach, Florida and at the Kennedy Center's Millennium Stage. He has also taken part in a concert and educational program taped for overseas broadcast by Voice of America. He performs regularly at powwows and festivals throughout the U.S.

Relaxing, Soothing, Job Well Done
author: L.J. SklenarI heard Ron Warren where I work during national American Indian week and bought this CD from Ron's table for my wife, a massage therapist, to play when treating her clients. This order was for three more copies to give to other friends and neighbors. If Enya's getting a little long in the tooth for ya, this'll do the job. Good work, Ron.
Actually, there is distortion
author: JaniceI have listened to this cd often and I know for a fact that in the tracks titled "Skywoman", they have used an engineering technique to distort the sound and make it sound like an electric guitar. It is absolutely brilliant...
This flute is not distorted. The downward trailing has to do with the way it is
author: MartiThe Native American flute is not "distorted" and when you hear the end of a phrase go down (flatten out), it is done by the flutist and is part of characteristic style of Native American flute playing. The sounds clips are great and I'm planning to buy this CD.
Soothing, makes music of the imperfect
author: Carol June HookerHeartbeats of the Forest World combines native American flutes with drums, guitar, and keyboard in the gentlest polyphony. Downward trailing at the ends of phrases reflects the irregular shape of each handmade flute, and at first irks ears tuned by exposure to perfectly straight transverse silver flutes. But Warren wraps these trailings into accompanying tones, making music of the imperfect. The results are deep soothing.
Great work on the distorted flute.
