Ron Rutherford is a man whose life has been built around music.

He fondly recalls bouncing on the back seat of his Father’s Chevy Bel Air to The Beatles singing “I Want To Hold Your Hand” on the radio.

“It was a typically beautiful Dallas, Texas day,” he says, “blue skies and fair weather cumulus clouds out the windshield as we sped down the highway.” It proved to be a seminal ride. He has been inspired by and passionate about music ever since.

Ron played piano and violin as a kid in Texas. Moving to New York City as a young man, he took up guitar.

While living in New York, he played and sang around Manhattan and the Northeast; did some television and jingle work; was written up in the New York Times for his performances with The Rutherford & Steward Band; and wrote and performed briefly with legendary rock pianist Nicky Hopkins.

Ron Rutherford’s musical influences are eclectic and diverse including such artists as: The Eagles, Don Henley, Crosby Stills Nash & Young, Neil Young, Jackson Browne, Bob Seger & The Silver Bullet Band, The Steve Miller Band, Van Morrison, Rodney Crowell, Buddy Holly, The Everly Brothers, The Beatles, The Byrds, Buffalo Springfield, The Band, The Allman Brothers, Creedence, Little Feat, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, Elvis Costello, Traffic, Leon Russell, Bryan Adams, John Mellencamp, Warren Zevon and Hank Williams.

Although growing up listening to and loving Rock and Roll on the radio and records, he had country music in his ears wherever he went, just from living in Texas – and both had a profound impact on him.

Ron Rutherford’s music is something familiar you’ve never heard before – stories of love, loss, insight, and inspiration. Picture a full moon over a long lost trail and a lone wolf that beckons the listener to follow to the end.

Ron Rutherford’s album, Lone Wolf, ends too soon.

  • Lone Wolf - A Journey of Songs by Ron Rutherford
    author: Calamity Cate, trueCOWBOY magazine

From the very first track of Ron Rutherford’s latest CD offering, Lone Wolf, one is swept up and involved. Jumping off with the upbeat single, "Freak Flag," this listener was rockin' around the floor, singing the chorus and feeling the urge to get out and ride! "Unlucky Love" is a soulful, smooth love song that cleverly belies its title and is about love found! Each track pierces a different spot of your heart with intrinsic sentiment emoted through lyrics that are universal and poignant. Lone Wolf is more than a musical offering, it is a journey of one man’s life through eyes that have seen it all and brave enough to bear his soul for the listener to befriend. "This is True," "Damned," "Tennessee Moon," Rutherford’s tribute to his friend, Johnny Pierce, and the title track, "Lone Wolf," round out a collection of compositions that is well thought out and sincerely communicated. Rutherford's voice is reminiscent of Tom Petty and Don Henley but then uniquely his own. And as if all that weren't enough, Rutherford has brought together some of the industry’s stellar posse in John Groover McDuffie, Marty Buttwinick, Scott Brannon, Bill Keis, Ted Falcon and Larry Russell. Co-produced with Robert Wayne Hawkins, Lone Wolf is a refreshingly familiar take on timeless situations and places we’ve all been, roads we’ve all walked, and for some of us, as a lone wolf. Call it country rock, southern rock or blues, Lone Wolf by Ron Rutherford is just good ole rock 'n' roll! trueCOWBOY magazine 15030 Ventura Blvd. Sherman Oaks, CA 91403 USA ph: 818-642-4764 calamity@truecowboymagazine.com www.truecowboymagazine.com

  • An Emotional Journey
    author: Don D. Lewis

Independent artists are experiencing a surge in popularity and exposure thanks to the Internet. One such artist that's taking the reins of destiny is Ron Rutherford. Ron's superb CD "Lone Wolf" is filled with great songwriting and lyrics that convey the emotions of love found and lost. The album is a mix of simple guitar melodies with a touch of backing musicians along with full-bodied country/rock/roots music inspired tracks. Ron's excellent songwriting/storytelling talent shines in every song and the quality of production makes the album an easy listen. The album starts off with an rocker called Freak Flag that reminds me of early Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers. It speaks of putting yourself out there facing life head on. From there Unlucky Love speaks of finding someone new when you've stopped looking and expected loneliness to be your constant companion. His lyrics offer a tone of hope and future happiness for those looking for a true love in their life. The mood of a cold night in the street of New York City set the tone for Bye Bye Baby Bye Bye. It expresses the feelings of loving someone who's decided they want out of the relationship and just walk away. Ron speaks of letting go but still keeping the possibility of reconciliation open. Hole In My Heart reminds us that relationships are give-and-take and true soul mates know this. Loosing someone you thought was the one for you takes a heavy toll on the heart and mind. With This is True, Ron delivers another strong rock inspired track that speaks of taking control of his destiny and facing the future with renewed direction and determination. Tennessee Moon talks about the pain of loosing a close friend and writing partner. The title track Lone Wolf invokes images of the independent and strong loner that's looking for a kindred spirit; someone with whom he can run underneath the moon together. The last song on the album, Dirt Road is an anthem to the young musicians that start with nothing, work hard, save their money, grow up and hit the road. No matter how far you come or the level of success you achieve, it's important to remember from where it all started...the Dirt Road. An enjoyable listen from end to end, Ron Rutherford's "Lone Wolf" would make a fine addition to anyone's music collection. Don D. • This Is The Sound
author: Martin Smit The NextBigThing Podcast

This is the sound of the Cowboy, the Truck driver, the Poet, the Ordinary Guy. This is the sound of the great open spaces at long past midnight, when the heart is fearful and the soul is lonely. This is the sound of a brightly lit bar, full of noise laughter and raw, honest music. This is not afraid to sing of friendship and love and loss. This doesn't conform to fad or fashion and doesn't pose. It is as pure as dawn in the mountains and as truthful as city street traffic jams. This is Country Rock music that wants to be the whole world not just parts of it. This is Lone Wolf, by singer/songwriter and independent music recording artist, Ron Rutherford.

  • Awesome sound, music and person
    author: Maurice Zondag

The voice of Ron Rutherford has a so called, sharp edge, which is so comfortable to listen to! His overall sound can be called country rock, and sounds a bit like a mix between the old Eagles, Elvis Costello and Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young - besides all the close harmony, his sound is actually sometimes more rock than country. Nevertheless, his album, Lone Wolf, is a fine collection of a well balanced mix of all the above. All done with a lot of emotion into the songs. You can enjoy listening to it with full attention, or have it as a nice background music when your friends are over. Ron is an amazing guy, that fully understands the way music in the 21st century will be distributed and therefore reaches the fans all over the world. He supports all new media outlets and offers independent radio and podcasts his full cooperation on getting the main message out. Buy his album and start enjoying this amazing musician now!

  • Damned If You Don't!
    author: Average Joe American

Just like the Eagles, only different. A little bit country, but not. Ron Rutherford's rockin' country album, LONE WOLF, is a smash debut hit! Whether you're a LONE WOLF running under the TENNESSEE MOON, or flyin' your FREAK FLAG on a country DIRT ROAD, the music of Ron Rutherford's LONE WOLF is essential gear for any outing! Rutherford gives us a musical gift we haven't seen since MANY MOONS AGO. THIS IS TRUE not only of the songs individually, but of the entire album as a package. The songs just fit together, and while each song is highly enjoyable on its own, to get the most of all that Rutherford has to offer, this album deserves a listen (or three) from beginning to end, in a quiet room, with a cold drink, and the lights dimmed down just a little bit. Hop on with Rutherford and enjoy the musical ride of your life. I promise, you won't be DAMNED if you do, but if you don't ...

  • It Keeps My Freak Flag Flyin'!
    author: Zack Daggy

This album is fantastic! It's a roller coaster ride for the soul. From the cruising down the highway stereo-a-blazing track Freak Flag, though the haunting and forlorn melody of Many Moons Ago; Lone Wolf is a journey... A journey that you won't regret taking.

  • A Diamond in the Rough!
    author: Ed Ovett

Without a doubt Ron Rutherford's "Lone Wolf" CD is a diamond in the rough! From the first track, "Freak Flag" to the last, "Dirt Road" this package is bound to become a classic. As was the case back in the days of vinyl albums, for a collection of songs to become classic, they must all be memorable; not just one or two. Ron's "Lone Wolf" CD contains 11 memorable tracks and I remember when I first heard it, it was very difficult to choose 1 track for "play" on my podcast. Jersey Joe (a behind the scenes music lover from New Jersey) has chosen as his "Pick-To-Click" track #6, "This Is True" but for me if I had to pick one, I'd go with track #1, "Freak Flag" which has also become Ron's brand slogan, "Keep Your Freak Flag Flyin'!" Produced by Robert Wayne Hawkins and singer/songwriter Ron Rutherford, "Lone Wolf" is bound for the "classic" storage bin!!

  • Great Straight Up Rock and Roll
    author: Bruce Cohen

After my 30 some years recording and performing, it has been a long time since an album made me want just to sit on my balcony with a cold drink and a good cigar, just listen to some good old rock and roll; but Ron's album "Lone Wolf" did so instantly. What John Mellencamp tried to pull off (and did not) with his last album, Ron Rutherford accomplished, and he made it look easy. "Lone Wolf" makes you feel like you are sitting in the session with the artist singing straight at you. Lone Wolf's rock numbers are strong and don't tire after a few hearings, the guitar work and leads are punchy and erudite without over-reaching. His ballads are well-hooked and moving; if you put on the iPod headphones and zoom in, his singing is nuanced and passionate. Ron's music works well as background, but even better with the lights low, doing nothing but listening. "Lone Wolf" deserves to be an airplay and purchase market success. (I give it four stars because as I understand the star rating, all time historic albums like "Aqualung" and "Deja Vu" and "Meet The Beatles" are five stars). Well done, Ron!

  • Photo Artist
    author: Sharon

I LOVE this album...all the songs on it and most particularly LONE WOLF. I think he is a brilliant musician, composer and artist. Look for him at the top of the charts!

  • Do ya' like the Eagles? If so, you MUST buy this CD!!!!!!!
author: Ron Ely, Musician, Los Angeles, CA

I am absolutely blown away by this CD. It's Eagles quality, and I can see it climbing the charts in a big way. You venue owners better get this guy booked....while you still can!!!!!

  • Not just your usual "country" music...
    author: Karen Dippel

It's not just your usual "country" music; it has a country style of its own. Funnily enough, the songs do not create a sad and melancholy emotion as is often the case with country lyrics, reminding you of past losses/failures. Ron's songs and lyrics produce a more uplifting effect and they are pleasing to listen to while you're working, shopping, driving and before going to sleep. They create an all-around good mood for any activity!

  • Strong production and powerful songs from the heart with soul.
    author: Bill Wence/Bill Wence Promotions

Ron's new album shows great depth in songwriting as well as performance. This AAA/Americana album is choc full of powerful songs from the heart with the soul to match. You can certainly tell that Ron has lived the music. Quite an accomplishment in this cookie cutter music world of sound alikes.

  • Ron is a positive and powerful force
author: Lori Crever, host, "30 Minutes with the Author" (Twin Cities)

This CD is a huge bolt, a thunder clap of poetry, contemplation, storytelling. I have interviewed many writing talents, including poets, and I place Ron's storytelling through his music in the highest category. A success! Ron is a positive and powerful force, a new and brave voice in music that seems somehow familiar. In his debut CD, he draws on some heavyweight universal themes with eloquence and terrific musical artistry. My hat is off to all of the musicians who are part of this work. The songs have a way of creating quite an effect.

  • Escape from the hustle and bustle
author: The High Priestess of Real Estate

I really like the music on this CD! It's mellow. Easy to listen to. Soulful. Most of all, the songs make you feel good.

  • The "teasers" on his website didn't do the CD justice.
author: Peter Darmi/ Cloudcap Productions, inc

Where did this guy come from? Every once in a while someone appears out of the blue that knocks your socks off. The "teasers" on his website didn't do the CD justice. Ron has a first class product. I hope John Q. Public has the chance to hear (and buy) work from this talented country artist.
