  • amazing lyrics

I totally love her lyrics. She should be like famous or something.

  • Street performer who made me stop and listen
    author: Deborah

I heard Ms. Ronne performing on a corner of Michigan Ave in Chicago. I was in a hurry, but I had to stop and listen. I waited for her to finish, bought the CD, and listen to it endlessly. The music is haunting, moving and unique.

  • Simply outstanding!

"And if ther is a angel / to bring upon a sing / to lead us to coincidence / to show our place and time / we're too strong to hide" Pure poetry, inspiring music for a somewhat extraordinary record. Words wouldn't simply be enough to describe this immaculate wonder, this state of grace.

  • An exceptional talent
    author: Mark

A wonderful voice, with haunting melodies. Red Line Train always sounds a little sad in that nostalgic, sun-set kind of way. It gets into you and stays. The music, though, is derivative. Maybe a little too DiFranco or Amos. So much promise for future records though.

  • A Fantastic Voice, But
    author: Steven Cochrane

I can admit my biases. I had the privilege of seeing Kristin play, of all places, near a bus stop about a block down from a Starbucks. So impressed was I with her voice and presence that I bought the CD she was selling (out of a red, soft-sided luchbox). Unlike her busking performance, the record itself has its faults. Like many independent releases, it suffers from disappointing production, and, being two years old, at this point, it fails to represent Ronne as the artist she is presently. At points it feels as if she might have nailed the vocal if she'd been able to record a couple more takes, but here there's a hesitancy completely absent from her live performance. Then there are the overbearingly (attemptedly) "virtuosic" guitar licks of collaborator Ben Lansing, which do little but distract from her voice, easily one of the more phenomenal instruments that I have recently encountered. More than a competent guitarist, in her own right, I fail to what use Ronne might have for Lansing's (downright abusive) dobro-hacking and faux-spanish-guitaristry, which, sadly, permeates the record. While "Red Line Train" (the title track of which, in and of itself, easily redeems any of the aforementioned missteps, I might add) remains a fully enjoyable listen, I am convinced that if Ronne were to sit down in a studio with nothing but her electric and cut a new album today, it would be far superior. That said, the record's high points ARE alone worth the cost of the CD, and, if nothing else, Kristin Ronne remains one of very few promising new voices in folk music (Imagine, momentarily, a cross between Joni Mitchell and Natalie Merchant), and for that reason alone deserves our support.

  • Kristin is a Folk Legend in our own time.
    author: Heather

If you give of your time and take in the sounds of this outstanding debut album you will find.. I am not Biased!! Kristin is a Folk Legend in our own time. Coodos to her depth and search for Truth!!& Coodos to Ben's Texturized depths and truths as well. The Soul of Kristin's song's have the capability to leave the melodies playing over and over thoughtfully in one's mind. The Brillence of both Kristin and Ben's artistry is enlightening and profound. The movement is both entense and yet gentle, beautiful & fun. This is a great album! You will want to share the word about this one with all your friends. I know I do..

  • The spirit of American folk music resounds in the voice of local singer/songwrit
author: Allison Byrnes - WOW Music Hour - 88.7 WLUW - Chicago

The spirit of American folk music resounds in the voice of local singer/songwriter, Kristin Rönne. Listen to the ten songs on her debut cd, "Red Line Train" and you'll hear traces of Joni Mitchell, Simon & Garfunkel and Bob Dylan. Each song is shaped with fluid emotion, wavering only slightly between passionate particpant and impartial narrator. This culminates into a controlled chaos of chord changes, percussive strumming and the added picking, sliding and bowing of guitarist Ben Lansing. This addition emphasizes the mood of each song - from the despondent and ethereal to the confrontational. Just because this effort has deep and undeniable roots in folk music does not mean that it doesn't stand out as interesting and fresh. Jazz inspired vocals emerge on more than one track, most impressively on the song, "Rapture". This melody is remniscent of an early Chet Baker song, rich with pleading romanticism. "Mind Control" dabbles in Gipsy Kings styled guitars and mandolins that lend both a frenzied and dangerous tone. Many of the songs are serious and complex, recalling the music of Jeff Buckley or Tori Amos. Overall, it's an exceptional album with a lot to offer to the listener.

  • In times of needed folk music, you must purchase this, it is real.
    author: James Mitchell

As folk musicans write, they write about either gratitude or resent. This particular recording is the real thing, and will circulate amongst both grace and those who understand beautiful songwriting. Kristin has accomplished this within this particular recording, and has strived in her excellence to produce what is needed in the music world. Thank you Kristin, for providing this. Note to consumer: don't think twice, own this cd.
