notes
Roney caught the groove-bug
early in life when at age 3 he was exposed to secular artists in his parents’ collection such as Stevie Wonder, Parliament Funkadelic, and the Jackson Five, as well as Gospel icons such as James Cleveland, the Hawkins Family; and later on, Fred Hammond and Kirk Franklin. At age 4 Roney was fascinated with the drums, which he playing throughout this childhood and into his teen years. He participated in Church choirs and after his first performance outside his home church at the East Texas Church Conference at age 12, the young prodigy was hooked.
As he continued to study music, Roney
became interested in construction melodies and harmonies. His natural progression as a musician brought him to piano lesions at 16, which prompted him to begin his career as a composer. From there, Roney improved his chops and expanded his musical horizons. He gained an appreciation for many different styles of music, including jazz, rock, Latin flavored R&B, and hip hop. In 1995 Roney began working with the El Paso based Mac Money Productions. The
engineering and production experts George Ware and Tony Mac took Roney under their wings and showed him the ins and outs of the latest technology in recording software.
Roney composed, engineered, produced, and played keyboards and drums on all of his own material. More than 90% of his work was done at his home studio, with his immediate and extended family (recently renamed “The Mix”) assisting in backing vocals and other productions duties. Roney released a demo cd in late 1998, and quickly sold over 1000 copies. This caught the attention of Shade Records, and after a lengthy period of pre-production, retracking, and post-production, Roney’s contemporary Gospel masterpiece Behold was ready for release on Shade’s Green Division in 2001.
Under his leadership as Choir Director and Minster of Music for Christ Cathedral from 1998-2003, Roney led the choir in singing behind the following Artists:
Dionne Warwick
Jeffrey Osborne
Oleta Adams
Chaka Khan
Roberta Flack
Peabo Bryson
Jody Watley
Al Jarreau
Roney has played and performed with the
following Artist.
William Murphy III
Byron Cage
Kirk Franklin
Daryl Coley

Roney has also had the opportunity to
produce a song on Jennifer Hudson’s new
release that will be in stores this summer.
Currently Roney is the Minister of Music for Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church in Phoenix, Arizona. His new CD “INEFFABLE” will be released
in August 2007.
