notes
Original, accessible, and memorable, Allene Rohrer has made a lasting impression on the San Francisco Bay Area music scene, with her vivacious performances, hypnotic vocals, and eerily haunting lyrics.
Synergism was recorded in 2001 at Pajama Studios in Jack London Square in Oakland, California, with the masterful Jim Gardiner (engineer to several gold and platinum artists) and mastered at The Plant in Sausalito with John Cuniberti. The great musicians featured on this CD include John Fonseca, Jean Kirk, Todd Novak, Julie Larson, Rob McLucky, Richard Baca, Paul Kuhn and the enigmatic Dr. Jimmy. G.

...there's a haunting quality to a lot of the songs...
author: ZeitgeistThe first time I played this I hated it. Thoroughly. But I'm a professional and I always give things a second chance. Second time around some of the melodies took hold and on the third listening I finally acclimatised to Allene's distinctive voice. A seasoned performer on the San Francisco Bay Area music scene, this is the debut CD from Allene. She also performs with Mistress, a 4-part harmony, acoustic quartet, featuring Julia Bordenaro, Barbara Griesau and Zeitgeist lauded T. Hallenbeck. Once you tune into the rhythm, there's a haunting quality to a lot of the songs which are augemented by some tremendous performances, especially from the guitar and voice of John Fonseca. The highlight of the show is “Danger” where the basic folk-rock template gets jazzed up and downhomed. It takes a while but it's well worth getting to grips with this CD.
...emits an atypical singer/songwriter creed...
author: J. Sin, Smother.netSelf-dubbed an “old broad from Oakland”, Allene Rohrer employs folk-rock to coast her way to your ears. Her vocals are on key and are soothing—especially on “Danger”, which gives off the vibe of old school vocal jazz like Billie Holiday. The instrumentation is tight and emits an atypical singer/songwriter creed that breeds a contemplating light rock adventure.
Hauntingly beautiful voice, dynamic delivery
author: Patti HarrahCrisp, clear, clean sound in vocals and instrumentation.
haunting & sensuous
author: Carolyn MoskowitzGot your disk late this afternoon & listened to it. The production itself is very clean & professional sounding. You've surrounded yourself with excellent instrumentalists. Your songs have matured but remain haunting & sensuous, something they've been since the beginning.
