notes
RODNEY HOLMES is one of today's most talked about and respected drummers. His talents as a composer and producer are showcased on this highly anticipated solo debut. Rodney has worked and recorded with some of the most respected musicians in both rock, and jazz worlds. Carlos Santana, Rob Thomas, Wayne Shorter, Michael Brecker, Randy Brecker, Joe Zawinul, are just a few examples. Rodney is currently a member of The Steve Kimock Band.
TWELVE MONTHS OF OCTOBER is electronic based music with a different kind of vision. Rodney manages to pull together many different elements to create a uniquely exciting, yet thought provoking hybrid of dance and progressive music. Blending live performances with elements of breakbeat, techno, progressive rock and jazz. Even though this CD is difficult to categorize, the intensity of the playing, melodic compositions, and the almost cinematic images are undeniably powerful.

Genius
author: temmy hanafiwoooow, if I had more than 4 thumbs, all for you maestro...
Brilliant!
author: Dave FloydHoly smokes, as a drummer, I am humbled and inspired at the same time. The fills and grooves he comes up with are insane. Some great guitar solos too, especially on 'Shapeshifter' crisp and biting would be how I would describe the guitar.
Super cool.
author: Jarrod KomarekEvery song on this CD is great, and, as a drummer, I find it very inspirational. My favorite song on the CD, Sabertooth, is a great mix of electronica. Delivery was quick, which is always a benefit. CD was in great condition when I received it.
Off the hook
author: Daniel Renaudin....i saw him on the MD'05 and he just blew me away, his drive is perfect, is execution is perfect and talk about concentration...Sabertooth and wildlife plus all those short drum stories are making 12moo a joy to listen too. Dan Montreal canada

What a great album! Aside from the blatantly lyrical drumming, you have catchy melodic riffs, texture, mood, Tony Williams-like drum solo interludes. His playing is so unique and personal. These are not songs that are just platforms for rhythmic pyrotechnics...they are just really good songs. Current/modern. If you like his performance at MD 2005 you will absolutely LOVE this cd.
By a drummer but not just for drummers
author: J_PAJI was blown away when i saw rodney at the modern drummer festival a couple years back so i had to by this. But i was even more surprised with the strong song writing! This is a cd that anyone that enjoys modern prog will love. Rodney has released one of my favorite cd's of all time!Buy this and you won't be disappointed.
A fantastic drummer's mod view of jazz prog rock fusion!
author: Terry CoyleWhere to start? Welp, first it's hard to follow the instructions and not talk about Rodney while talking about how great this album is. This album afterall, IS Rodney Holmes. His mod take on jazz fusion is neat. Rodney is a pretty good keyboardist too. He gets off into some pretty heady, ethereal type stuff. You do need to be into some heavy keyboard/effects/sounds and such to fully appreciate the album. If you don't mind an entire CD of this accompanied with fantastic and quick drumming, then you're set! Yeah, I'm a drummer like most of you guys and as another reviewer stated; If you like this, you gotta see him play live. I was recently turned on to Rodney upon viewing the 2005 Modern Drummers Fest DVD and also thought he and JoJo Mayer were my 2 favs. Rodney does a cowbell pattern exercise that drummers need to check out! Actually, I've been practicing and can almost play it through once, of course at 54 years old, I'm sure I've been playing twice as long as Rodney, so there you have it! Sorry, tried to keep it short!
Infectious!!
author: Mohamad FalmiThis CD is definitely one of my personal faves. Since I got it, there hasn't been that many days that has passed by without me listening to it. You get a little bit of jazz, prog and even some tracks that sound like something out of a Prodigy album (whom I love as well). And thanks to this CD, I now know how terrible I am at drums. Argh!! Now... how about an instructional video for your many fans? Rodney Holmes and Jojo Mayer are 2 of my favourite drummers of this genre. Thank you for the music. MORE PLEASE!!

Inspirational and moving
author: Tim BarrowI'm a drummer in Oregon.... USA, and loved Rodney's CD.... the music was extremely moving and truly inspirational :-). Gives me a good reason to keep playing. Rodney.....keep stickin man, you've got alot more in you to share with the world.
Great drummer/album
author: Kevin BoockholdtRodney Holmes is an amazing drummer. I've heard him play in a few other bands as well, and his playing is nothing less than breath-taking. My favorite albums that showcase his great talents are this album, Steve Kimock Band: Eudemonic, and The Hermanators: Twisted. Watching him play live is a whole other aspect of his greatness. He is so fluid, relaxed, and incredibally technical. Usually when he plays live, the band will go to improvising on the songs, which is great. Here you see his great ability in musicality, and playing what feels right for the song and the moment. This guy has great understanding of time, and can groove like a mad man. Definately one of my favorite drummers of all time. So get this album, and any other album that he plays on, he won't disappoint.
A daring recording that deserves widespread attention.
author: JDSRodney Holmes has a vision of music without borders and the chops to pull it off. For the first time an album is able to deliver the modern aesthetic of techno / electronica/ trance (think Massive Attack)style music, delivered with the skills of an masterfull musician. People familiar with Rodney's work with legendary jazz musicans such as The Brecker Brothers and Wayne Shorter will be in for a surpise. But give it a chance to see him breath life into modern machinery, because Rodney can keep multiple syncopated rythyms going while adding energenic human comentary. There's lots of good drumming here but the real suprise are the compositions which have the feel of a soundtrack...the soundtrack of your life maybe.
Great Performance
author: RichardA very refreshing album. The combiantion of superb musicianship with the interesting blend of electronica and rock make this a very interesting and charismatic cd.

Awesome, Inspiring drumming delight!
author: DavidBeing a drummer i've always been on the lookout for different genres that incoporated drums in different ways for inspiration. This album is a great inspiration... a brilliant piece of art with catchy grooves and very original feel to it. Rodney Holmes is a not only a great drummer but an awesome musician and it shows in this album!

Pure sound, unbelievable drummer!
author: PaulSo far I've only listened to Electric Wildlife over and over again. I first saw him perform this at the Modern Drummer festival and was blown away. Such a clean pure song, such incredible drumming going on underneath, I just close my eyes and listen.
A great drummer and ...
author: Sylvain...a great CD !!! This is a new style of music and I definitely love it. Fantastic ! I saw Rodney a few years ago at a concert (Brecker Brothers) and I was very surprised by the great performance he did. That's why I was so interested in a solo album from him. Great project !

Rodney is the King of Drums
author: Keith DunlopHard to classify the type of music this is, except to say that if you crank it up it is very very good. Rodney Holmes is like a drum machine with a heart and soul and mind. Try this album out and then go see him live with Steve Kimock, he is the absolue Best in his field !

Don't Miss This Tour De Groove!!!
author: KevI really enjoyed this CD from Rodney. I've seen him perform with Santana and at some drumming events. I've been waiting for this CD for a bit, but it was well worth the wait. Rodney is a fantastic drummer and this is a shining example of his other talents. Check out "Through The Storm"-personal percussive favorite... it's a wall of musical expression (and notes too, but in a fantastic way). Also-the constant evolution of the groove in "Was it a dream" provides and interesting journey. Seriously-if you enjoy techno, progressive rock, and jazz-you'll dig this. I am positive you'll be listening to 12 months of October long after 12 months from now!
