notes
Jenny Robson represents the new generation of Finnish jazz music. A singer that critics have praised has finished her Masters degree studies at Sibelius Academy Jazz Department and is composing music for her band. While working with the band she is also teaching young talented singers at pop and jazz conservatories.
Music on the cd is mainly own compositions except "In A Quiet way" which is originally Joe Zawinuls composition "In A Silent Way". All lyrics are by Jenny Robson. The music is a mixture of jazz,r&b and soul music. Improvisation has an important role.
Jenny says:
"I love jazz because of its freedom in improvisation, communication with other musicians and because of the rhythm. It is so freeing to sing songs with my own interpretation of the lyrics and rhythm. And because I have studied jazz it has opened many new doors in other music styles. I get so much more out of my singing and I can vary lyrics and melodies and make them my own."
reviews:
"The final outcome of the cd is polished and mature expression with the touch of funk and jazz music" "As a debut, Jenny Robson -cd is excellent accomplishment" " The balance between the expression of popular and jazz music succeeds stylistically well"

"Jenny Robson: Jenny Robson (JSR)
Jenny Robson's impressive debut will certainly make funk-jazz aficionados sit up and take notice. This talented Finn's soft voice, cleverly written originals and great choice of musicians signal the arrival of a major star. Abdissa Assefa enhances proceedings tremendously with nice percussion."

"In Her ''Quiet Way''....
Jenny Robson/JSR-01
This haunting, exquisite CD debut from the Finnish jazz chanteuse, Jenny Robson will evoke the interest of those with a broad musical understanding. Robson's vocalise & lyrics for the lovely jazz ballad ''In A Quiet Way,'' penned by one Joe Zawinul, presents a brilliant study, along with a solid utterly convincing structure for how profound a song can sound when melody and lyric are symbiotic. This disc is an aesthetic exercise of immense range and quality that will become required listening for those intent on assimilating the core essence of fine music. Kudos too to her choices of sidemen. They play in the true quintessence of the jazz tradition."

Jazz for the new milennium
author: Melissa ForbesJenny Robson's take on jazz is fresh and exciting. Her beautiful arrangement of Zawinul's "In A Quiet Way" is a lush soundscape which transports the listener. Jenny's lyrics make keen observations on childhood, growing up and the pain and joy of love. I really admire her work. Recommended.
I love this lady's CD!!
author: Jeff HegwoodThis CD is awesome!! Jenny Robson is one singer who knows how to mesh jazz, funk, and the style of the ballad to make any song she's singing sound as if it were written just for her interpretation: I'm crazy about this CD!!
Love it
